WILL start anew this rooming with a higher, fairer creed;
ill cease to stand complaining of my ruthless neighbor’s greed;
I will cease to sit repining while my duty's call is clear.
I will waste no moment whining and my heart shall know no fear.
I will look sometime about me for the things that merit praise;
I will search for hidden beauties that elude the grumbler's gaze;
I will try to find contentment in the paths that I must tread,
I will cease to have resentment when another moves ahead.
I will not be swayed by envy when my rival's strength is shown;
I will not deny#ns merit, but I’ll strive to prove my own;
I will try to see the beauty spread belore me, rain or shine—
1 will cease to preach your duty and be more concerned with mine.
After Very Short Illness
Mr J. C. Mctnllar Dead
Sick not quite a week. Mr. J. C. Mc-
Cullar, living a few miles out of the
city, well known here and throughout
the country, died last Friday. The
Saturday previous he was taken ill ano
pneumonia developed, bringing his life
to a close within a short time.
His death is peculiarly sad owing to
the fact that he leaves a wife and six
children, the youngest being only two
days old at the time of his death. In
addition to these he leaves a father,
mother and several brothers and sist
ers.
The friend" of the family join in ex
tending sympathy in this hour, for
there is gloom when a young man ro
bust and in full strength of health, and
loved by them all is taken away.

When the good Lord promised to

didn't mean the fellow who helps him-! c ’0' have had in contemplation a trip to
our sister city for the purpose of
taking this degree in Masonry, and
they decided to go at this time,a special
invitation having been extended them
by their brethren at Milledgeville.
They made the trip by the lower route,
which is by way of Tabernacle and
Brooks Spring as the roads on this
route are said to be the best. The up
per route by way of Deepstep is about
two miles the shortest, but the roads
are not quite so good. —Sandersville

Alice in Wonderland Was
a Beautiful Little Play
With plenty of delightful scenery’ and
special electric effects, local talent
starred in the spectacular production of
“Alice in Wonderland” last Friday
night, with quite a large crowd present.
The play represented a heavy amount
of work for those in charge and also to
those taking part in the play.
Half an hundred children of the city
participated in the play and half as
many gmwn-ups aided in the presenta
tion. It was delightful in every way
and while the proceeds were devoted to
a high cause—that of the local Con
federate monument fund—still every
body received their money’s worth in
addition to aiding in thegood work.
