New Complaints on Tile Dummy
The longer the public has to contend
with an annoyance the more they real
ize the disadvantages. It is especially so
when we refer to the dummy, which
continues to trample upon the rights of
the people in the streebs in this city.
The physicians are making complaints
against it, contending that it is a great
annoyance nt different times while per
forming operations and on many other
difficult cases necessary to look after
in their practice. But even after all
the unpleasant conditions of affairs the
public still has to contend with the
puffing and roaring dummy, throwing
hot cinders every day up and down the
main streets of our city, sometimes
compelling the people passing by io
stop, hide their face in order to prevent
being burned and close their eyes to
protect them from the heavy smoke.
We have never hnd a desire to make
a complaint in any affair in the way of
making a change unless the change
would result in some great material
benelit to the people, but when [it is
necessary to protect the public in such
cases we shall at no time neglect pre
senting a claim in their behalf.
Some onohasquestioned us as to what
wo thought would become of different
enterprises in this city should such a
thing come into effect as putting the
dummy off of the streets. Now, to us,
it looks like this would be easily Bolved.
I f it is out of the question for any house
to continue business without tho '’dum
my line then let them move their busi
ness to another section of the city.
At any rate it matters not what the
contentions of any individual may bo in
regard to tho matter there is one thing
certain and that is if we! ever have a
progressive citv it is absolutely necess
ary to get rid of the dummy, matters
not what change it may necessitate
bringing about and we all may rest as
sured that gwlmt ever change may
be made it will all result in a material
welfare to the public.
