Atlanta, May 9.—That the good old
middle Georgia county of Putnam is
leading the state in per capita sales of
War Savings Stamps through March
31 is shown byt the report of Hugh
Richardson, state director for war sav*
ings, which has just been issued.
Every county’s per capita quota for
the year is $20, this being*the basis df
calculating War Savings Stamps quo
tas’ throughout the country. Putnam
county’s total quota is $263,200,
Through March 31 she had purchased
$40,221 worth of stamps, or an average
of $2.90 per capita. Putnam’s chair
man for war savings is B. W. Hunt.
Clarke'county, cf which C. D. Flan
igan is chairman for war savings,
comes second on the list, with per ca
pita sales of $2.40 through March 31.
Her total quota for the year is $546,-
580, and her total sales through March
31' were $55,757.
Fulton county, with Charlerf J. Ha-
den as county chairman, is third on
the list. Her per capita sales through
March 31 were $1.43. Fulton’s total
quota for the year is $4,531,140, and
her total sales through March 31 were
$253,531.
Mr. Richardson’s report shows that
Georgia is a long way behind her War
Savings Stamp quota, taking the state
a whole. The state is expected to
buy in 1918 a total of $57,500,000 worth
of these war securities, which is an av-
rage of $20 for every man, woman
and child, black and white, through
out the state. This quott, is more than
half the total quota of the entire sixth
federal reserve district, comprising
six states in the Third Liberty Loan.
In order to put Georgia’s quota over
the top and maintain the splendid re
cord achieved by the state in the Lib
erty Loan drive just closed, it will be
necessary to perfect a complete War
Savings Stamp organization in every
county and Director Richardson is
now bending his efforts in that direc
tion.
