AIRCRAFT WILL FLY
ACROSS ATLANTIC SOON
Washington, June 21.—‘‘An enter
prise which must be carried out as
»oon as possible,’’ said General Branc-
, e T 01 ' he British air ministry here
Joday, is the flight of the Atlantic.
i nere is really no reason why a^n-
slaerable number of big airplanes and
seaplanes should not cross the At
lantic during next summer.”
.General. Brancker disclosed the fact
t“ fl t the British air council had defl-
nitely decided upon transtlantic
Bights in order to find a route for the
movement of American-made air-
ftaft to the front. His mission in
this city has to do with arrangements
[or the poineer flight in which it is
hoped the United States government
will co-operate.
It is expected the inital flight will
be made this autumn in a machine of
British make, probably a sea boat,
starling from Newfoundland and
touching at the Azores and Portugal
before arriving in Ireland. It has
been estimated the trip can be made
in forty-hours or flying. Plans under
consideration call for crews of four
men, composed of an engineer, a re
lief of pilots and a navigating officer.
