and the wheatless loaf.
The directions for making the wheat-
. ss bread are as follows:
Bread Without Wheat Flour.
All of these 1—1 3-4 cake yeast, 2
tablespoons salt, 1 whole egg.
With one of these, 2—3 3-8 cups
barley, 2 3-4 cups ground rolled oats.
And one of these, 3 1-2 cups ecru
flour, 2 1-8 cups rice flour, 2 3-4 cups
sweet potato flour, 2 1-8 cups (scant)
tapioca flour.
Make a sponge of materials under 1
(except egg) and 1-2 of ingregdienls

ARRESTS OWN BOY
AS ARMY DESERTER
Birmingham, Ala., July 9.—Starling
Hicks, of near Jasper, brought his son,
Starling Hicks, Jr., to Birmingham,
Ala., Monday night, almost overcome
with emotion, turned the young man
over to Federal officials as a deserter
from Hie United States Army.
"It nearly breaks my heart to have
to arrest my own son and turn him
ever to the authorities on so serious
a charge," said Mr. Hicks. “But evtn
if he is my son. 1 cannot harbor him
as a deserter, or even countenance
his act.”
Young Hicks is said to have destrt-
ed from Camp Wheeler, Macon, about
two months ago, and has since, it is
reported, bten hiding in the woods
near Jasper. Mr. Hicks spent several
nights in the woods In an effort Vc,
locate his son.

Bibb Representative Resigns and Gov
ernor Orders Early Election To Be
Held.
Information received from Atlanta
yesterday to the effect that Major
Benjamin J. Fowler, member of the
House from Bibb county, tendered his
resignation to Governor Dorsey yes
terday afternoon and a special election
was ordered by the Goveror to be
held at the earliest possible date to
fill the vacancy.
Goes to Washinton.
It is understood that Major Fowler
yesterday received orders to report to
lie Judge Advocate General's office,
in Washington at once for assignment
to active duty.
The special election can be called
by Ordinary C. M. Wiley, of Hlbii
County, at any time within his dis
cretion. but it must lie within twenty
lays. Ordinary Wiley was out of the
city attending a meeting of the hoard
of trustees of the Confederate Soldiers
Home in Atlanta anil according to his
plans will return next Thursday.
