Called to the stand, Whitehurst was
grilled for perhaps fifteen minutes by
counsel for Vinson. He admitted he
signed the affidavit, b’t said he did
not know all it stated. It was read
to him in sections, and he was asked
if he meant to say what he had sworn
to in the affidavit.

of Police Brown, who said that no
man coming within the work or fight
age would be permitted to loaf the
streets without, being able to specific

Chief Brown emphasized the fact
that no one would be able to escape
this order and that he Intended to
see that the enforcement of the law
will be carried out to the letter. Just
how many real idlers there are in

the police department, additional help
will be supplied in carrying on the
