Special Train of About One
Hundred Men Visited Mil-
ledgeville In Behalf Tech
nological School.
With Dr. K. G. Matheson and Col.
B. L. Bugg as the principal speakers
on board, a special train of about one
hundred prominent business men of
Georgia visited MHledgeville Friday
afternoon.
The visitors arrived here abowt 4
o'clock. The purpose of their visit
wag In behalf of the campaign to
raise |r>,000,000 for further develop
ment of the Georgia Sohool of Tech
nology.
Awaiting the arrival of the train
bearing the speakers, were about fif
ty prominent citizens of this city who
bad made preparations to convey th?
guests to the business part of Mil-
edgeville. Headed by Mayor Miller

the men over the city in automobiles,
visiting the Georgia Normal and in
dur.trial College and making a trip
out to tho stato sanitarium.
Within about thirty minutes the
visitors and their escorts assembled
on the campus of the Georgia .Mili

president of tho Georgia School of
Technology, and Col. B. L. Bugg, pres
ident of Atlanta, Birmingham and At
lantic railroad, were intorduced to
lie audience by Mayor Miller Boll
in a very ublo manner. Mayor Beil
called the attention of the hearers to

ed as cominandent of the- Georgia

Women’s Club of Baldwin to
Assemble at Union Point
Aoril 30th Election Of

The annual convention of the Fed
erated Women’s Clubs of Baldwin
county will be held at Union Point
the last day of this month.
At his meeting will take place the
election of officers of the Federated
Clubs. Mrs. J. L. Beeson, will retire
from the office she holds, she having
served three years, the time limit un
der the constitution of the federation.
Therefore, it will be necessary to
elect another president for the on
suing year.
This will probably be the largest
annual gathering of the federated
Woman's club yet to be held in Bald#
win county. While the time for the
gathering is a little more than two
weeks off, preparations of a splendid
program is now being worked out for
the occasion.
A flag raising exercise will be a
part of the program of the day. This
particular feature of the occasion
will be carried out in attractive form.
It is known that an effort is being
made to have a prominent and widclv
known educator to deliver an address
at this annual meeting. Tills speak
er's name will he published in The
News in its next issue.

After being ill for several months
Mrs. Jos. E. Pottle passed away ai
her home hero shortly after 10 o'
clock Tuesday morning.
Mrs. Pottle was a member of cue
of the imost prominent families lu
this section of Georgia. Shu was a
daughter of the late Mr. Thomas
Dover Wright, for many years
prominent figure in this section mid
a resident of MHledgeville.
Mrs. Pottlo was born in the yeur

childhood she resided here. For

fairs and for a long period before
her death she was president of the

were received by the family during

Mrs. Pottlo has two sisters who
resided on the same block with her
for many years prior to bur death.
Her sisters are Mrs. E. E. Bell end
Mrs. Henry Goodman. Sho is sur
vived by her sisters, husband, two
daughters, Mrs. Walter Green, of
Charlotte, N. (h, and Mrs. T. D.
Luther, of Milledgoville, and ono son.

At a meeting of the mayor and
ity council held Thursday evening,

walks In various section of the city.
Tho citizens cf MHledgeville will
be asked to co-operate in every way-
possible in tlie matter of extending
ihe sidewalk curbing. In front of the
property owned by Individuals the
city is asking for only a part of the
cost t;f the granite used unci street
force Is carrying on the work with
out direct expence to those owning
property in the vicinities where the
curbing is to be placed.
Tile resolution as passed by the
city council Thursday is as follows:

The two story building occupied by
the A. J. Carr company prior to con
flagration that the several buildings
on Wayne street two weeks ago is
now being repaired.
Work on the building commenced
Saturday and. bill be In readiness for
occupancy by tho A. J. Carr Com
pany after the general repairs are
made.
When the repair work is completed
the building will be in even better
shapo tiaan it was before it was so
badly damaged by tho fire. One
section of the interior work will prob
ably bo^finlshed at a time in order to
enable the former occupants to move
back an ( ] commence business again
in the old stand.
As to the building owned by Air.
Carr, and destroyed In the flames, no
decision has been reached in re
gards to rebuilding. The large two
story bulldling that Is now undergo
ing repairs is the property ol' tho Alil-
lodgoville Masonic club.
