Mrs. May Dixon Thacker is a sister
of Thomas Dixcn, of New York, the
author and playwright, who is so well

She is no less proud cf being the sis

of tlie greatest gospel preachers of the
day and pastor of the best known Bap
tist church in the world, Spurgeon's
Tabernacle in London.

Mrs, Thacker is nerself an author
ess cf considerable reputation, tiler
book, "The Strength of the Weak,"
being at one time the best seller in
American fiction. Dr. Thornton Whal

Formerly pastor of the First Presby.

bock, "The moral of the book sets up
on a different plane from the numer
ous’and quickly dying stories which
distress tlie nations and overload the
world. It may seem ungracious to
say so but ‘The Strength of the Weak'
is s. perior in high moral tone, in liter
ary quality, in the skill with w.ich
tlie incidents are evolved, in the
analysis of character, to any other of
the books which the brother of the
authoress' .as given us lor some years.
Tlie Charlotte <N. C.) papers, speak

the address she gave largely of her

One felt as possible never before the
possibilities in the life of a woman,
if that life, with its attributes and
graces, were consecrated to God’s ser
vice."
As a Speaker.
Tlie Meridian (Miss.) Star said:
“Mrs. Thacker's exquisite poise, her
well modulated voice, combined witli
her radient personality and the ear
nestness which lay behind her words,
were effective in causing her message
to impress her hearers with much
force, and many of these crowded
about the speaker later to express to
her their appreciation of the rure pri.
vilege of hearing so cultured and st i-
rited a woman."
It will be a rare privilege for the
women of tills city to hear this talent
ed woman in her justly celebrated ad
dress on “The Human Touch.” Tho
ladles cf all the literary, civic and
social clubs, as well ns of all Un
churches will doubtless crowd the
largo auditorium of tlie Methodist
church to hear Mrs. Thacker.
