and lay pluns for real action In the
matter of festering the several com

The fanners of Baldwin county are
much encouraged over the outlook for
a fair crop to( be harvested this fall.
This outlook applies to almost every
CMng in the fileds at this time, though
there is some fear of the boll weevil
getting in some considerable detrimen-
work as long aa the much needed
lowers keep up. In other words,
far ffe the cotton crop is concersed. It
Is all wneng if it doesnt rain Hiid it is

rcessary for the growth of the plant,
vhile at the same time it is a known
fact feint dump weather means the life
rul spreading of the boll weevil.
Corn, velvet beans, peas, potatoes
peanuts and all fluid crops are thriv
ing as a result of the recent showers
hat haive visited Baldwin county. No
table Improvements can lie seen In
all fields and it is doubtf'l there be-
in; a time in the last several years
.vhen crop conditions so rapidly
changed for the better as d> ring the
last ten days or tv/o weeks.
On July 5th, at 4 o'clock In the af
ternoon, Mr. .1. G. Liddell, from the
College of Agriculture, will speak in
MHledgevllle at the Court house tn
the s'ibjoct of exterminating the cot
ton boll weevil.
The weevil infestation has been
very severe this year in the cotton
growing counties tf Georgia, and the
farmers are In a panic for tear they
will not be able to produce any cot
ten unless something is done quickly
he- control this pest, consequently
there have been numerous calls from
the various counties for assistance
Mr. Liddell, who speaks here
Inly 5th, will also during the conning
week, visit thle counties of Jasper,
Hanfecck. Green, Warren and Wilkes.
On account of the mild winter large
lumbers of the weevils survived hi
bernation, and have now come out and
are inresting the cotton fields. It is
the problem of the farmor to kill these
old weevils before the cause too much
destruction puncturing the squares,
and has start the cycle of reproduc
tion which continues until the frost.
Mr. Liddell will be prepared to give
cotton planters the latest established
methods, which are being used suc
cessfully in tfie control of the weevil,
and every' farmer wfa'at has plented
cotton this year will be standing In
his own light if he falls to attend thlt
meeting and hear this speaker, who
Is coming here to aid him in growing
successful crap.
In addition to the Bell Weevil
Speclaitlftt, Mr. Swain, the County
Agent, has asked the College to send
Pasture Expert here on the same
date to take part in the program. This
man, whom we hope every reason to
believe will be sent, will discuss the
vnrfcoe greases which are suited *°
southern pastures. He will tell how
and when these grasses and clovers
are to be seeded; and the soils on
ch they will grow well. He will
also discuss the succession of crops
tc> be grown for live stock.
As Baldwin county is now od the
eve of making a change in her crop
ping system, title disci | Sion of toe
pasture problem is a pertinent one.
The County Agent urges every farm
er and other persons Interested to at
tend this meeting, as each attendant
will no doubt be able to gather some
information which will be of assis
tance to him In his operations during
the year.
