lasses Mixture For the Con-
I L oi of The Cotton Boll
Weevil
(Continued From First Page)
l-i en examined daily and the num
ber of live weevils found on them
> refully noted, ns well ns the per
centage of squares punctured. To
date we have found n\o definite dif-
lerence in the square infestation and
•the record of live weevils collected
••shows almost three times ns many
found on the plats treated with mo
lasses ns on those treated with dust
ed calcium arsenate.
Considering these reo rds ns a
■whe'e it Is seen that the molasses
mix | re does exercise a certain de-
glee of control over the boll weevil
but that this is generally less than
thM secured with plain dusted cal-
< lum arsenate. Under certain con
ditions it was found that a much bet-
ter degree of ■•/ ntrol was secured
I'm n the molasses mixture than with
the calcium arsenate, hut this result
v.. s noted only in the case of very
i m: 1! rotten plants averaging only
J'nv Inches In height, and also only
•luring exceedingly dry weather. The
latter fact was partlcarly noticeable
; nd is probably the key-n te of the
variation in results. It seems quite
probable that during exceedingly dry
weather the weevils visit the drop
lets of molasses-water mixture for
the purpose of securing moisture hut
do not foil:w this practice to as
marked a degree during normal
weather. In other words, the results
to far indicate that dusted calcium
arsenate is superior to the molasse:
mixture except during exceedingly
dry weather and on very sunnll plants
At the present time the growth of
ilio ' tton plants has apparently ro
ne ed the point where the molasses
mixture does net give any marked
«ie roe of control. Our fairly lartre
: • i'o applications on an ncrenge
basis showed that it takes at least
«>no hour ami a half to treat < ne acre
• if small cotton with the molasses
mixture and this would make the
.1 bor cost of the application annie-
v 1 at greater than that involved in
supplying the plain dust. In view of
tsuch results there seems to bo little
reason for using the molasses niix-
11 re in perfcrence to calcium arsen
ate at any time and it certainly

" A Story That Will Prove Interesting
l he middle of August we are to remove our store across to south side of Hancock street in the building
formerly occupied by Mr. J. F. Bell's grocery store. It so happens that from now until the time we are
to move we are to go through a period that might well be defined a mid-season. For this reason, Coup
led with the tact we are to move, we are going to offer every shoe in our stock at prices you prob-
ably haven t heard of since way back yonder in the year of 1914.
