JUDGE RAWLINGS OF
SANDERSVILLE DIES
Sandersville, Ga., Nov. 27.—Judge
Rennctt Rawlings died here thia after
noon after an illness of several
months. He was one of Middle Geor
gia’s leading attorneys and had serv
ed several terms as solicitor gen
eral of the Middle Circuit and then
judge for several years. He was a
eamii.lr.te from the Tenth District for
Congress six years ago. He wns a
graduate of Emory University.
iie was 68 yoars old and Is survived
hv two brothers, Charles G. and H.
William Rawlings; one sister, Mrs. B.
E. Houghton, of Macon; a wife; three
boys, Ralph, Dr. Fred Bangs and Ben
It., .Jr.; two daughters, Mrs. C. W.
Gunnells, of Tcnnille, and Miss Win
ifred Rawlings, of Sandersville. Fu
neral services will occur from the
residence Monday afternoon.

COUNTY POLICE CHIEF
VALDOSTA INDICTED
^ nldosta, Ga., Nov. 27.—The j
Lowndes county grand jury woich
has been In session for a week, Sat
urday returned nine indictments
against Chief J. G. Lowry, of the
county police force. Three of the
indictments charge embezzlement and
six charge extortion. In one of the
em.bezijemisnt cases, it i 3 charged
that the officer accepted 1 a cash bond
which was never accounted for, the
other two were in connection with
the collection of tax ft fas. In its
genoral presentments, the grand jury
recommended that the county police
force be abolished, and that Chief
Crowley be dismissed from the serv
ice immediately, and that he be not
hereafter appointed as an officer of
the county in any capacity. They
recommended that commissioners ap
point one man to work in connection
presentments, the Jury also recom
mended that the commissioners sell
no more bonds for the purpose of
road work, for a period of twelve
months. Also that in the future no
trade be made where the county was
interested, with any member of coun
ty commissioners.
