ROUND OAK MAN HEADS
JONES COUNTY BOARD
Gray, May 17.—The county board
of education of Jones county was re
organized at a .recent meeting. Two
now members coming in made the
reorganization necessary.
James T. Finney, of Haddock, af
ter sixteen years of faithful service,
and Thomas 'W. Duffy, of James,
after nearly two score years of effi
cient service, were not candidates
for re-election, and Joe A. Middle-
brooks, of Haddock, and Moses J.
Wood, (of James, were elected to All
their places.
T.ie new members and officers are
\V. H. Henderson, of Round Oak,
president; F. M. Stewart, of Gray;
H. P. Emerson, iMacon, Route 6; Joe
A Middiebrooks, of Haddock; Moses
.1. Wood, of James, and E. W. Sam

B. Y. P. U. WILL MEET IN
ATHENS NEXT MONTH
AtOtens, May 17.—The annual state
convention of the B. Y. P. U. will be
held in Athens June 31, 32 and 23,
with thg First Baptist church of
which l>r. James C. Wilkinson is the
pastor.
Plans are already being worked out
for the convention and it is officially
stated that several hundred delegates
will be here for the sessions, repre
senting the entire state of Georgia.
CHANCE AT ANNAPOLIS
FOR 3 GEORGIA BOYS
Washington, 1). C„ May 13.—Three
young men recently nominated by
Senator Watson for entrance to the
Annapolis Naval Academy, have fail
ed to pass the entrance examination,
it is learned. Senator Watson is now
looking about for three more young
men as principals, and first and sec
ond alternates to take the entrance
examination. There is but little time
remaining as the cadets must enter
July 1. with the next class.
GREENSBORO OIL MILL
PUT UP PEANUT PLANT
It has been authoritatively stated
that the Southern Cotton Oil Co. will
spend $10,000 at its "Greensboro mill,
installing a peanut shelling plant.
Announcement is made that the
Greensboro Oil Mill will pay the mar
ket price for peanuts of the White
Spanish variety. The mill will buy
in wagon load as well as car load
lots. The market price will be paid.
The mill is now offering seed nut3
for sale at 4 1-2 cents per pound,
which is something over a dollar a
bushel. It takes about 60 pounds to
plant an Acre. Peanuts can be pro
duced, it is said', without the use of
fertilizer.
It is claimed the hay will readily
sell at from $18.00 to $20.00 per ton,
and that peanuts can be planted as
late as July 1st.
It is said that the Greensboro mill,
ae well as other interests, will have
buyers in every market in this sec-
tic n where peanuts will be offered
for sale.

DEEPSTEP ITEMS
Rev.-C. C. Boland was the guest of
Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Brooks Saturday.
The B. Y. P. U. entertained with a
social Friday night at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Avant. After a
short religious service. Interesting
games were played. Refreshments
were served and the time passed
pleasantly away.
Miss Annie Julia O'Quinn was the
dinner guest of Mlrs. L. S. Andrews
Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Brooks, Mr.
Sam Brooks, Mrs. S. A. Kelley and
Miss Jewell Brooks were guests of
Mir. and Mrs. Bryant O’Quinn Sun
day.
I.ittle Emmitt Hall, Jr., is very ill
at this writing.
-Misses Mary Julia Harrison and
Ruth Young were dinner guests of
Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Veal Sunday.
Those who were guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Emmitt Hall Sunday were as
follows: Mr. and Mrs. Cecil F. Hall,
Mr. and Mrs. Zaek Hall, Jr., Mr. and
Mrs. J. A. Wiggins and Mr. and Mrs

Elton were guests of Miss Mattie Mae

Mrs Alonzo G. Veal.

day with Mr. and Mrs. Tow Lewis at
Warthen.
Mr. Arthur O’Quinn and Mr. Hu
bert Wiggins were dinner guests of

The Decpstep school boys motored
over to Harrison Saturday p.m. to
play baseball with the Harrison boys.
Deepstop was the winner.
This is the last week of school here
and Thursday night there was a con
cert by the smaller children. Friday
mg t there will bo a real good play,
Deacon Dubbs. There will be a small
admission fee of 10c or 15c charged,
but the play will be well worth the
price. Everybody has a special in
vitation to attend.
