MCINTOSH 4k EVANssPn>p*i aril! bc^pHsd L. Lane, the regu- Democratic nominee for Senator from this District, withdrawing from thence. Without discussing the celatire mer its of the two candidates, whose names bare been presented for this office, we regret the circumstances which bare caused the rctiracy of the nominee of the Democratic party. Sereni reasons can be giren for this condition of a'- fairs. The failure of the State Con- rention to nominate a candidate for GoTernor; dissatisfaction at the rota tion system, and the general disruption of the Democratic party. This is a deplorable state of affairs, when a regularly nominaled Demo crat is forced to withdraw from a con test, which has so many times been won by a united Democratic party. We congratulate Mr. Lane, and accept his declination as an indisidual effort to slill the troubled waters of Georgia Democracy. We presume that Capt. Westbrook will now h ore the field without or ganised Democratic opposition. He has a good rcci ri as a Icgisla'or, is conservative, anil runs with a pledged following composed of Democrats a- well as Republicans. The Next House—Parly (Quarrels. Of all the many uncertainties of the present campaign, the political com plexion of the next House of Represen tatives seems just now to he (he niort mixed. Anything like reliable or satis factory calculation as to how the un-li bers will stand is precluded by the un fortunate party or family quarrels that have arisen on both sides throughout the entire county and the unprecedont- al member of independent candidal- a that are in the field. The Washington Situ writing upon Ihis subject says that in not a few districts which are safely Republican when the party is united, divisions have occurred, result ing in two candidates of that parly. This is true of a number of Democratic di-tricts in Missouri, Virginia, Georg's -nd other States. The independent candi dates avoid any distinct declarations as to how they wilt vote politically if elected, because they want to catch rotes from both parties. It is more than probable that the political control if the next House will depend upon the results in these districts which are rendered doubtful by narty quarrels. Atlc Since the ab-ve went into type, Capt. S. K. Weston, Chairman of the Senato rial Convention held in this city on.the 24th ultimo, has handed in a notic-, which will be found elsewhere, calling Mricib i “1*0“ the d legates to said convention lamakAiiniirptabltshcit In this payer ; to m-et again to-day (Saturday) to ySSwfiSi mlTi^w'.ni nomiinate another candidate.
