Mr. George Scoville, ihc brother-

night, bis subject being the “Goileau
Case.” Though quite a large num
ber of tickets were sold, the sudi
ence was a small one, but beartil;
applauded Ihe lecturer.
When Mr. ScorilK- made liis ap
pearance be premised his lecturr
with the remark that he bad not the
least intention of reflecting on tin
Court or endeavoring to affect thi-
trial in any way.' He came to this
city expecting a fair trial, and so
far be had no reason to romplaiu;
but in this fair trial was contained
not merely wltat transpired within
the wallB of the Court House, but
the conduct of the picas and whai
was said by tbs people—in short,
public opinion; and it was to tlini
public opinion that he dc-siicd to
nddreri himself, -without endeavor
ing to extenuate the crime or to
create public feeling iu favor of the
prisoner.
The lectnrcr complained that the
press had uot the disposition lo give
that force and consideration lo Ihe
defensa which bad been interposed
