account of one of the recent miscon

This is a slate of :.ff*ir* that no grow

Her mitiie is llhoda McCrca. .She
with her husband, Jack McCfea, was
tried in this (Crawford) county at the
March adjourned term of the Superior
Court 1870 for murder, was found
guilty ami sentenced to the peniten
tiary for life. The following was the
verdict of tfftt jury sitting on thair
case: “We, thu jury, find the prison-
ers guilty, and rccommcud that they In-
sent io llie penitentiary for life.’*
They were charged with murdering
liner child, which they concealed and
buried secretly at -Salem Church, three
miles trom this place. Some 8U*pi-
cion ot the loul deed was entertained
by the citizens, ami they repaired to
the place of burial, sought out the
grave, had the body disinterred and
the Coroner held an inquest and ex-
ninitiation of the body which confirm
ed the belief,as the skull was complete*
ly broken, and other marks of vio
lence on the body. I am not certain
hut what the husband was granted a
new trial, nnd perhaps acquitted. I
do not think he was sent to the peni
tentiary. From the best information
lean get at present llhoda wan the sec

was some darker than her husband,
who was a mulatto, but not real black.

I can, hv some search, find out more

The following clipping from the

a lesion and a warning to our farmers
in this section:
“Because oats and corn are cheap
now fanners should not neglect these
two, to Ihom, most important of all
crops. Plant plenty of both; plant
early and late; neglcet your cotton
for grains; it will prove tho mean* of
salvation to the farmer. In the Mont

nificant paragraph:
There ia bat little demand for corn
in any part of the State. It is very
cheap, which goes to show that it i‘s
plentiful. The effect of an abundanco
of corn is to cause farmers to neglect
the planting of oats as superfluous
and unnecessary. This is a mistaken
policy, aa those who adopt it may
discover when too late to remedy.'
