City Editor Xmts and Advertiser:
Dear Sm:—Will you kindly inform
me if there Is any water side resort,
such as a grove, picnic park, fair or ex
position grounds containing water in
your neighborhood, ora sheet of water
on any line of travel within 20 miles,
where arrangements could be made
with the manager of any transporta
tion company lor an excursion, or with
the proprietor of the resort for the
aquatic entertainment of Captain 1’aul
Boyton ?
The exhibition can be given in five
feet of water with a surface of 200x200.
This is the minimum site.
The Captain’s performance Is most
unique and entertaining, and it always
gives the utmost satisfaction.
This year many odd. novel and won
derful features have been added, nota
bly: An exciting and spectacular naval
combat, Illustrating torpedo warfare
In connection with his dress. There
will also be all kinds of aquatic sports,
auch as foot races and polo games by
experts while standing upright on the
surface of the water in the new patent
water shoes; log rolling by champions
in this line, and professional and ama
teur boat and swimming races. Wal
lace Ross, the famous oarsman, has
been engaged to take charge of the
boating department.
We carry our own racing boats, and
all professional races will be rowed by
the best known oarsmen in the United
States. We advertise like a circus and
have fine pictorial paper from a one to
a thirty sheet stand. Our entertain
ment is the only one of the kind in the
world, and It has drawn audiences
from two to fifty thousand last sum
mer.
I will be most grateful for any In
formation you may give mein regard
to the waterside resorts in your vicini
ty. Also, for the name of the railroads
running to it, and if there is any man
ager, society or association with whom
arrangements might be made for an
exhibition or regatta. Hoping to have
the pleasure, sometime, of thanking
you personally for your kindness, I re
main, Very respectfully,

Atlanta, Ga., March 17,1390.—The
Southern Manufacturers’ Association,
in a recent meeting in Augusta, de
cided to withdraw its offer to pay a
bonus of ten cents on every hundred
pounds of cotton fu mills received
from producers wrapped in cotton bsg-
ging.
A Journal reporter saw Colonel L.
F. Livingston to-day and- asked him
what effect it would have on the bag
ging fight, and what the Alliance
would do about it.
He said:
‘•The action of the Southern Manu
facturers’ Association seems very
hasty. They should have conferred
with us, I think, before withdrawing
their offer to pay this bonus. Last
year they offered to give a bonus of
ten cents on every hundred pounds ol
cotton wrapped in cotton cloth that
they bought from the producer. And
all their mills did so. It did not bene
fit us, very few farmers being so situ
ated as to be able to haul their cotton
to the factories. The crop was sold to
the factors and net to the spinners.
Still it was looked upon and served as
good
MORAL SUPPORT ONLY,
and helped the cotton bagging fight to
that extent.”
“What action will the Alliance take
upon cotton bagging and tare?” was
asked.
“The national committee on cotton
bagging, of which 1 am chairman, will
act next week. We shall act alter con
sultation with the presidents of the
Alliances of the cotton states. It is
certain, however, that the Alliance
WILL DEMAND TARH.
“That Is, it will demand that cotton
shall be sold by net weight just as
every other commodity is sold. This
would do away with all the disagree
ments as to the kind of bagging used.
We are now negotiating with the deal
ers in Liverpool, Havre and Bremen to
have cotton bought and sold on this
fair basis. It is but simple justice and
must be given us in time.”
WR’LL COVER THK CROP WITH COTTON.
As to the extent to which we shall j
use cotton bagging this year, I can
salely say that the entire crop in Geor
gia, and probably the entire crop, will
be covered with cotton lagging. The
mills will manufacture enough of the I
standard quality to wrap up
staple ot the country if necessary.”
‘‘What is the standard ?”
“The Odenhelmer texture, 44 iRchea
wide, weight three-fourths of a pound
to the yard. All tha mills can man
ufacture this quality. The advent-

-Veto* and Advertiser:
Permit me to extend my congratu
lations on the excellence of your Sun
day morning Chautauqua edition. It
shows a very commendable enterprise,
and illustrates the city and tbe great
Georgia Chautauqua admirably.
I have, however, one word to say as
to the credit for the blessings and ben
efits of the Chautauqua eojoyed by our
people. We are Indebted to
Dr. W. A. Duncan, Albany’s
constant friend, for the suggestion,
and the Assembly, armed with all cf
its beneficent influences, sprung fully
grown from" his bead and heart.
I am sure that the Georgia Chautau
qua was first planned before the Pied
mont Assembly, and to the care and
cultivation of Dr. Duncan do we o*e
its present beautiiul prosperity and its
precious promise of abiding blessing*.
Permit me to say, too, that, through
inadvertence, I know, you omitted to
mention the very efficient services of
the first Secretary and Superintend-
eit, Hon. n. M. McIntosh. To his
nergy, so intelligently directed, was
•argely due the success of the first As
sembly of last March. And his able
idvoeacy of the Chautauqua idea as a
former editor of the News and Ad
vertiser is greatly appreciated by the
public. J. S. Davis.

How to Make Life Happy.
Take time; it is no use to foam or
fret, or do as the angry housekeeper
who has got hold of the wrong key,
and pushes, shakes and rattles it about
the lock until both are broken and the
door is still unopened.
The chief secret of comfort lies in
uot suffering trifles to rex us, aud in
cultivating our undergrowth of small
pleasures.
Try to regard present vexations as
you will regard them a month hence.
Since we cannot get what we like,
let us like what wo can get.
It is not riches, it is not poverty, it
i3 human nature that is the trouble.
The world is like a looking glass.
Laugh af it and it laughs back ; frown
at it and it frowns back.
Angry thoughts canker the mind
and dispose it to the worst temper in
the world—that of fixed malice and
revenge. It is while in this temper
that most become criminals.
Show your sense by saying muoh in
a few words.
Try to .«|>eak some kind word or do
“The action of the Southern manu
facturers will not hurt us much, aud
we expect to win the fight this year.”
A New 71 el nod or Treating; Disease
What arc they? There is a new de
parture in the treatment of disease. It
consists in the collection of the
speeches used by noted specialists of
Europe and America, and bringing
them within the reach of all. For in
stance the treatment pursued bv
special physicians who treat indiges
tion, stomach and liver troubles only,
was obtained and prepared. The j
treatment of other physicians, cele
brated for curing catarrh was procured
and soon till these incomparable cures
now include disease of tbe lungs, kid-
noys, female weakness, rheumatism
and nervous debility.
Tliis new method of “one remedy for
one disease” must appeal to the com
mon sense of all suflerers, many of
whom have experienced the ill effects,
and thoroughly realize the absurdity
of the claims of Patent Medicines
which are guaranteed to cure every ill
out ol a single bottle, and the use of
which, as statistics prove, has ruined
more stomachs than alcohol. A circu
lar describing these new remedies is
sent free on receipt of stamp to pay
postage by Hospital Remedy Com
pany, Toronto, Canada, sole pro

Why do so many intelligent persons
stubbornly refuse to take any kind of

A little child, tired of play, hud pillowed
his head on a railroad track and fallen
asleep. The train was almost upon him
when a passing stranger rushed forward
and saved him from a horrible death. Per
haps you are asleep on the track, too. You
are, if you are neglecting the hacking
cough, the hectic flush, the loss of appe
tite, growing weakness and lassitude, which
have unconsciously crept upon you. Wako
up, or the train will be upon you! Con
sumption, which thus insidiously fastens
its hold upon its victims while they are un
conscious of its approach, must be taken in
time, if it is to be overcome. Dr. Pierce's
