Tho cen tre her tvOOS.—Mtcon Telegraph, glad to see our contempo- king mention to the world the Albany has been done an m- i the population whioh the of- glvcs us. There are num- oltlzens in town who were on at all by the census many of them have so stated It is time for the city in hand and demand igs be righted. Perhaps there is no man In Con gressional politics to-day, who Is at tracting more universally the atten tion or the public than Thomas E. Watson of the Tenth district. But his fame Is due to no personal merit, nor to any brilliant aud meri torious record; it is simply the result of the vain and boastful blabblngs, and the foolhardy Third Party twad dle which fall from the lips of a polit ical traitor and a socialistic dema gogue. When he flrst renounced the Demo cratic flag and turned traitor to his party, and the people who gave Him office, onlookers were amazed and dumbfounded at his course, but many shook their wise heads and exclaimed "The man is conscientious In bis oon- vlctlons.” But when we add to the Infamy of his deserting his party, his cowardly attack upon certain members of Con gress through the medium of his book, his preaching of social and political equality to the Negroes, and his pur chase of the Negro Wilson to aid him in Ills corrupt campaign, we can no longer accord him conscientiousness of convictions, but must denominate him as the politician who vlewa pub lic office not as publlo trust but as a private gain, and who esteemB fame, no matter how obtained, whether beg ged, bought or stolen, even above honor, ai the sum .and substance of earthly possessions. Add to his corruption the fact that ho is the candidate of a party whose platform, although they may not now realize it, alms a blow at the prosperity of the oountry, and It is time to ask what reasonable man oould give such a candidate kls support. We hope the good people of the Tenth will show the world that their politics Is not In the hands of such a political demagogue, »IU. vr TUB Ol.P tilETKHMH. The IIxitALn doesn't do lialf the kick ing and scolding that It Is asked to do, nor does It give voloe to nil the com plaints that are lodged with Itby well- meaning citizens. But we have been asked to call attention to the impor tance of linving all the old abandoned cisterns In the city filled up, and we renlly think the suggestion n timely one, Beforo the artesian well era nearly every residence and business lot In the city had a cistern on It, and cistern water was used almost exclusively for drinking purposes; but now there are very few, If nny, or our people who keep their cisterns clean and use water from them. The result la tlmt there are a great many abandoned olterns In the e|ty, and they not only breed mos- qultoes, but it is the opinion of physi cians and others that they arc the cause of n good deal of slokness. All of tliqin have more or less stagnant wnter In them, and many of them are left open and are in n state of utter abandonment. Would it not be well fertile city au thorities to linvn nil inspection made of the oisterns In the city and take steps to have those that arc in bad condi tion either tightly covered or filled up entirely? We are wall aware of the fact that the lining up of a cistern is no small matter, and do not, therefore, desire to be understood ns ndvocntmg nil ordinnneo that would be at once peremptory, and tbo enforcement of which would Impose unnecessary ex pense or hardship upon any citizen; yet we would urge upon our worthy City Fathers the importance of hav ing tlm abandoned cisterns looked after, and of having them tilled up wherever one is found In a condition that Is liable to produoe sickness, it is only a question of time when they will all have to ho filled, except, per haps, those that are in tho streets and are used Tor fire purposes. And after our waterworks system Is completed it is doubtful if we will ever Imve any more use for these. MIIUUI.U TAKE A N'liW From Thurfilay's Kvisiso Hkralii. Perhaps the outcome of last night’s pugilistic encounter was one of the most surprising events with which the sporting world hns been greeted in years. However opposed to such encounters the majority of peaceful and thinking immunity may be, the dust from that pugilistic mill carries with It its les son. Hundreds of men bet thousands of dollars on the big champion, who would, they believed, certainly down the gentleman pugilist, lint with the dawn of morning these hundreds of men woke up to find their cash In other hands. Such Is the record of events. Every dog has his day, and Sullivan has had his. The strong are not always strong nor are the weak always trammelled by their temporary limitations. We learn that all things are variable and fluctuating, and that time which meas ures all events, often works In them sudden and miraculous changes. But the world at large heaves a sigh aud gives them but p passing notice. Kingdom’s are overthrown and kings dethroned,] empires are devastated, presidents shot, sluggers slugged, and hungry mobs overrun nations, threat ening destruction. For a moment the world looks on in wonder and then moves on apace, minding not what has been, but what is to be. COI.I|IIITT COUNT! DEnOt'RATS. Primaries will be held In Colquitt county on the 18th, to nominate a can didate for the legislature. The small population which was given to Albany by the official census report, is well known to the readers of the IIkiiai.I). It is time to make a correction. We don’t want to wait ten years for rights which we ought to have now, and which our present population would justify. The IIKUAi.n would like any sugges tions as to what public spirited citi zens think about the matter. It is time for the proper authorities to take the matter In hand ami set the city aright. WORTH’S XO.UI.VKE FOR LEGISLATURE. THE The Democrats of Worth county met at Isabella Tuesday and nominated a candidate for the Legislature. It was a mass meeting, but the nomina tion was by ballot, and Mr. Joseph M. Sumner was elected by a large maior- Ity. Mr. Sumner is one of the most intel ligent and substantial citizens of Worth; and his nomination gives gen eral satisfaction. He will be elected.
