People’s Patty men are those who

They have been disappointed; they

They have made a failure of business

A BIT OE1IUSIOK.
Until Wednesday the campaign in
Southwest Georgia had been a serious
and earnest matter.
The advent of yesterday’s sunshine,
put a new light on political matters In
the Seoond District, and the events of
the day injected a bit of humor into
the oampnlgn which brought a broad
smile to the faoo of every true Demo
cratic Georgian.
The oondidate of a party whioh was
fairly represented by the element
which made Its appenrnnoe In our city
Wednesday, coining from God knows
where, entered our midst, screened
from the same indignities which he
has offered the South only by the
presence of a lady, Ills wife, and
appearing before n distinctively
Democratic assemblage daunted
111 their faces his party’s stan
dard of proud dednneo soon to be
exchanged for the black dag of for
lorn hope. There he stood, the verit
able image of his often produced car
toon, and vainly endeavored before an
audience to most of whom his very
name was hate, to explain away the
black record of oppression and crime
whioh can never be erased from the
tablet of Ills character.
Most humorous of all he is followed
by a woman, who is in every way
his superior, though she cannot sur
pass him in fanaticism, and in whom
might almost be realized the insane
desire of Lady Macbeth when she
called upon the evil spirits.
Thus this humorous procession is
making a tour of the country among a
people who have not yet reached the
parrot stage, and who will hot strive
to immitate the actions or bow to the
desires of vaporing fools.
This Insanity of insanities, which,
eplgramatically stated, might well be
teamed “sanity gone mad,” is sufficient
to bring a smile to every countenance.
Verily, we think the proceeding
bit humorous.
The Negroes nre realizing more and
more every day tlmt the Democratic
party In the State Ik the only party
which has ever given them any ad
vantages and shown them substantial
friendship,
Speeches nre being made in nil parts
of the State by Negro orators advocat
ing the casting of the Negro vote for
Governor Northen, and their work is
already having n tollingelfeot.
The Negroes are realizing every day
that tl|ey are Indebted to the white
Democrats of the State for the educa
tion of their children, nnd for hun
dreds of other charities of a more local
nature which are brought to light
every day.
The sentiments expressed last night
by Jack Carter are echoed In the hearts
of ninny a son of his race, and since
they are left free to vote ns they please
by the failure of the Republicans to
make a nomination, they feel that they
owe a debt of gratitude to the Demo
crats of the State which they now have
an opportunity to pay,
The better classes of the Negro race
look nt the matter In this light, and on
the fitli of October they will help to
swell tho proportions of Governor
Northcn’s majority to an amount
which has never been reached by any
State election In years.
Over In Tnlhonn.
From Thursday's Evknino Hckai.d.
Hon. Ben K. Russell returned from
Morgan, in Calhoun county, to-day,
where he has beeu campaigning.
He reports everything lively down
there nnd politically all one way—
Democratic. “Calhoun,” says he,“will
roll up a good Democratic majority
when the time comes."
He spoke there yesterday with non.
Reuben Jones, candidate for Senator
from the Ninth district. Gov. Nor
then and Col. Huff, who were expected
down, were unable to get there.
A mass meeting of .the Democrats
was held there yesterday, and Judge
J, I,. Boynton was nominated as Cal
houn’s representative for the Legisla
ture. He will be elected by a large
majority.
Mr. Russell will take the stump In
other parts of the district In the near
future.
C*i'T. ff. E. Wootbn went down to
Isabella this morning to make a Dem
ocratic talk to the people in that dis
trict of Worth county. Dr. Pickett
hnd better hustle his stumps If he
wants to get a vote or two when elec
tion time comes.
