Georgia has more than one orator
who will snatch national fame from
the exigencies of the present campaign.
Many an erstwhile mute and Inglo
rious Webster has been called forth
from the obscurity of home politics to
sound the keynote of the National
Democratic anthem; and already his,
tory Is taking up the names of many
of Georgia’s sons and writing them in
quick succession by the side of her
honored Tuombs, Stephens, Cobb and
Grady.
To the aid of tho National party,
have recently been called DuBignon,
Graves, Hammond, Bacon, Ham anil
others, and among those who have al
ready won tile laurels of Congress
ional honors are Turner, Crisp, Blount
ami Moses, who stand In the forefront
of their party’s service tiring hot shot
Into the ranks of Democracy's enemies.
Georgia Is a State of orators. Her
statesmen loom up in the foreground
of National Legislation, and ninny a
time the knotty economical questions
yield to their solutions.
As they pass away in rapid success
joti the grand old Empire state of the
South mourns their loss, but never
with despair; fur with the coming
generation Impe brightens into reali
zation, and there standing upon the
proud eminence for n time made va
cant by the ham) of the grim reaper is
nnother figure to renew the lustre of
the light that had been dimmed and
the glow that for a time had vanished.

In a country that eohoesthe sentiment
of publlo opinion.
As evidence of the trend of popular
sentiment In favor of party principles
note the following list of prominent
men as presented by the Constitution,
who have come down from the Repub
lican stronghold, and have embraced
the Democratic faith.
Hugh McCullough, who was llnan-
olal secretary under the administra
tions of Abraham Llnooln and Chester
Arthur, is supporting Cleveland,
General Cox, of Grant’s oablnet, and
formerly governor of Ohio, has de
clared for the Democratic ticket,
Carl Huhorz, who wns a member of
Hayes’s cabinet, and who supported
Gnrlleld, In advoontlng the election of
Cleveland.
Judge Grnshnm, of Arthur’s cabinet,
a prominent onndldate for the Presi
dential nomination In 1888, and one of
the most popular Republicans In In
diana, will support the Doinoorntle
ticket,
Wayne MnoVengh, of Garfield's cabi
net, has taken the stump for Cleve
land.
Here nrn live men who were for-
inorely Republican cnblnet officers,
who have deserted their party in the
interest of good government, and to
the list must be added General Frau

reasons for their course the fact or the

to whom the Demoerntlo party is in

directing their best efforts to keeping

rolling up a still greater majority on
the 8th of November.

From tho Admits Constitution.
Hon. Ben E. Russell, Democratic
candidate for Congress Jit the Second
district, and Colonel J. W. Walters,
the Democratic elector from that dis
trict, are'doing excellent work at this
time. They have been making speech
es throughout the district nnd arc
winning back the wanderers to the
fold. They have appointments now
for Dawson, Cuthbert, Fort Gaines,
Blakely, Milford, Newton and Bain-
bridge. They aro splendidly received
wherover they appear.
The UDiversity students are protest
ing against tho action of the Trustees
in prohibitinginter-colleginto athletic
games. They are on the right line.
Southern institutions are somewhat
behind in the matter of physical devel
opment.
Now that Mrs. Lease has become
such a violent South hater, nml has
given expression to her disgust after
returning to the Northwest from her
recent tour with General Waver, it is
to be Imped tlmt she will not come this
way again. The disgust between
this man-woman and all true South
erners is mutual.
