Camilla, Go., Deo. 6.—Willis Hiles,
colored, woe this morulng found guilty
of murder in the first degree, end will
he sentenoed by Judge Spence, some
time today, to pay the death penalty.
The sentence of HileB will complete
one of the most rapid applications of
justice in the history ot orime in gonth
Georgia. On last Tuesday evening
Bite* came down to Flint, in this coun
ty, in an intoxicated condition. He had
been in Albany, and "tanked up" in
that city.
Be went to the home of his father,
William Biles, near Flint, and was in a
decidedly ugly mood from tho effoots of
his liquor. He tbreated to kill his
father, and was especially enraged at
- Fanny Walker, with whom he had been
living for several years Hiles and the
woman had never been married, though
they passed as man and wife.
Finally, in the height of his drunken
fnry, Hiles drew a pistol and shot Fanny
Walker. The ball entered her arm,
making a painful wound. The assail
ant then strnok the woman on the head
with the butt of his weapon, the blow
being heavy enough to cause death a
a short time thereafter.
Biles was arrested and brought to
Camilla, Uitohell snpeiior court being
then in session Anindiotmentwasre
turned by the grand jury ou the day
alter the killing, and this morning Hiles
was placed on trial for his life. He was
defended by Ool. I. A. Bush and Ur. H,
O. Dasher, Jr., while Solioitor Wooten
oonduoted the prosecution. A verdict
of guilty was found in a short while,
the jury being outnot over five minutes.
The principal witness against Bile* was
' hi* father, William HtleS. Judge
Spenoe will will probably pass sentenoe
of death on the prisoner some time this
afternoon.
The record of the trial is a good one
for Mitchell county. A verdict of
guilty was retured by tho jury in less
than forty-eight hours from the time the
orime was committed.
