THE ALBANY RANGE WILL TAKE
PLACE NEXT MONTH.

Interesting Contests—Arrangements Now
Under Way.
’ It'is now nssored that there be a mili
tary rifle tonrnament on the range of
the Albany Guards within the next
month. The matches will be between
teams representing nearly all the com
panies of the Fourth regiment, and in
all probability other regiments of the
Georgia militia.
Unless something occnrs to change
the plans of those who have in charge
the arrangements for the tonrnament,
it will take plaoe either on Monday or
Tuesday, Sept. Ilth and 10th, or Tuesday
and Wednesday, the 10th and Uth.
The dates will be Anally selected and
announced within the next few days.
There will be several matches as fol
lows, according to present arrange
ment :
Marksmen and sharpshooters’ class.
Open to teams of five men of the classes
named, from any company, the team
making the highest scorn winning a
cash prise yet to he announced.
IS ovine class. Open to teams of five
men from any company who have never
qualified as marksmen or sharpshooters,
team muking the highest score wiuuiug
a cash prize yet to he announced.
Cup contest. Open to learns of any
five men in any company of the Fonrth
Georgia regiment, team making the
highest score winning the Fonrth Regi-
.mont onp, which is now held hy com
pany G, Albany Gnards.
In nddition to tho above, there will
prohahlv he offered u first and second
individual prize lor the highest scores
made during the tournament.
Most of the details of the matches are
yet to he arranged. All necessary in
formation will he contained in a c ren-
lar soon to he issued from regimental
headquarters or from the office of the
regimental inspector of rifle practice,
Capt. Wm H. Tucker, of Columbus.
Tho state will furnish all necessBry
ammunition, targets, eto. The teams
will linve to defray their own expenses,
but us Albany is centrally located in the
territory of the Fourth regiment, these
expenses will be light.
On the afternoon of Wednesday, Sep
tember 4th, a preliminary match will be
shot an the range between the teams of
companies E and G. There will be no
prizes for this match. It will be shot
more for the sake of practioe for the
aebseqnent match than for any other
purpose.

Within n mouth’s time tho theatrical
season will open in Albany. Tho Sale-
Davis opera house will bo conducted nn-
der the personal management, of Mr. T.
D. Sale daring the season of 1001-2, and
local theatre-goers will enjoy plenty of
hieh class entertainment.
Mr. Sale is doing most of his booking
through Klaw & Erlanger, of New
York, who do the most extensive busi
ness in that line of any firm in the
world. Mr. Sale already has on his
books a splendid line of attractions, and
is still filling dates whenever good com
panies are offered.
Among the most prominent and popn-
lar attractions thus far booked may be
mentioned Frederick Warde, Murray &
Mack, Black Patti, Olay Clement, A1 O.
Field's minstrels (under the owner’s
personal direction), Oreston Clarke, The
Pride of .Tenuico, Sag Harbor, Roso
Ooglan and Sousa's El Capitan. The

is encouraged to believe that she is on
the road to a rapid recovery.
Misses Anmo and Gortriulo Mock left
today for a trip of several weeks to the
north. They will be joined in Macon
by Miss Hattie Hall and go to Old Point
Comfort, Va. From Old Point- Comfort
they will go by steamer to Now York,
thence to Buffalo to take in tho sights
of the exposition. They expect to be
away about a month or six weeks.
