by opposing it the end can be more readily
aceomjdisbed, we are ready to “light it out
upon that line.” The time lias not yet
come, in our estimation, to be so much ex
ercised about convention. We are tijatber
inclined to wait mul see whether tho Bump
Congress will ever gi\e us a showing upon
ibis (juestiou. They have invested the .Mil
itary Commanders with absolute control,
and even gave the power to every Hoard of
Hcgistratioii to erase every name they may
desire, and, like the immaculate Hrownlow,
they limy disfranchise every precinct that
would endanger the success of the Hadieal
cause.
With only these lights before us, we arc
unable to discern through the gloom which
envelopes the future, the right pathway.—
It is had enough to deceive ourselves, hut
worse to mislead our readers. We shall
continue to give facts as they are deve)oj»i d,

Props.—In our recent triji from Albany
to Atlanta, itwtfls the universal expression
that thero uevor was a better jirosjieet for
an abundant eroji than is now nppnrent.'—
The poorest pine lands, with the assistance
of a little manure, will yield almost equal to
the best oak and hickory plantation*.—

scarely evh* was any sickness before. We
were surprised when ti|> the country, to hear
• of so much sickness in that region. All the
watering places nro being filled up with
those seeking henltli. The ears an* crowd
ed with invalids, and every thing give* evi
dence of tho reign of disease.

(JoiNo Back on tiik Hkiikis.—A farmer
named Hornsby, residing in Johnson county
Missouri, lias brought suit against (icUcrul
Sterling Price, aud other officers of the rebel
army, for damages sustained by him in the
summer of 1801, by reason of being imjiris-
<med by rebel soldiers under Price. The
Sheriff has received from the Johnson county
Circuit Court an order of attachment
against Price and others, authorising him to
soise their goods, chattels, etc., to the value
of $.-50,000.
Judging from tho evident alarm exhibited
among tho Radicals of Georgia ill their re
ferences to the speech of the lion. H. II. 11 il®
delivered in Atlanta, one would conclude
that he had succeeded in creating some
doubts in their minds of the success of their
jtluiis and execrable schemes, and in order
to divert public attention from their excite
ment and uneasiness, have resorted to pue
rile and feeble nttneks on the jmst record
that gentleman. This course, however, will
avail tin in nothing; their - cowardice and
jicrjury is none the less a|>|iarent because
they seek to imjilicate Mr. Hill with them
their sophistry is plainly seen, mid every
mail of sense readily understands the differ
ence in the two eases. The efforts of these
men to create suspicion in the minds of
the jn'ople ofOicorgin concerning the sincer
ity of such men as Hill and U.x-Oov. John
son, by making allusion to flic coincidence
between the writing of their articles and
tin* reception of the President’s pardon, is
simply eontcni|»liblc, and worthy only (ft'its
origen.
Tho very filet that these radical editors
are so violent in their denunciation of the
sentiments of Hill and Johnson, and that
their vile sheets nro burdened with low in
vective against those gentlemen, should
make all honest men move enrol ill to exam
ine, and he controlled by, those sentiments.
The beautiful consistency ofsiteli men as tin
editor of the Atlanta New Min is manifest,
in bis litter horrorand righteous indignation
in hearing speeches like Mr. Hill’s, because
of their iiithunmatory character, and his
hearty endorsement and approval of the sen
timents in Radical speeches which every
where produce discontent, lawlessness and
riot. We would think that men belonging
to the partv, one of .vhosu exponents at the
South is («. L. Kborhnrt, and who, under the
pretence of advancing the education of*the
blacks, does all in bis power to create ani
mosity between the races here, should nev

Monday and Tuesday nights, elicited bursts
at applause from a largo ami delighted an
dicnee. The declamations and compositions
were read and delivered with remarkable
deliberation, distinctness, and sclt-poscs-

I was peculiarly struck with a boy npjmr-

declaiming, forgot some jiortion of his
speech, he stopped, quietly called for his
book, glanced at it for a moment, laid it
down, aud finished bis part without any
trepidation.
The fall session will commence on the 4th

their children oft to school, would do well
to select this school, the location, healthful-

well worth attention.
