Ga., as Copartner, Associate Editor, and business
man of tba News.
This copartnership will date back to the 12th of
October, the date of our purchase,—and is styled
Carey W. Styles A-C’o.
We commend our partner to the readers of the
News, and to the editorial fraternity, a« an educa-
ted gentleman, of high moral character, and liberal
literary %Mnlpments. ilia connection with the
Newt will greatly enhance its ralue in a literary
point of view, and incrense Its interest as a news
medium.
Mr. Evan* will have charge of the business of
the office, and relieve ua, to a great extent, of local
duties; which will enable us to devote more time and
thought to .editorial duties pinper.
0GVe congratulate our readers on this acquisition
to the News, as we are confident they will soon dis
cover improvement in all its departments. The old
songlhal “two-beads are batter than oue," is us
true In ftoWhpapcr business as in any known brnuch
of politleal eoonnmy, and it is by the combination of
energy and intellect, and propor division of labor
that aucoesa is aohieved.
\
The Conservative . Heritor on SitunUy.
It will be seen that "Many Citizens" oall a meet
Ing on Saturday next, for the purpose of appoint'
ingDelegates to the Conservative Convention, at
Macon op the 6th of December.
Wo tako it for granted that our Conservative
frlanda favor this movement, and that they need no
'•spurs to prick tbs sides of their Intent."* Nesrly
all the Conservative papers In the Slate have en
dorsed lbs proposition, and whole oolumns , have
been appropriated to "the duty of the hour" and
tha importance of party organisation. We have an
Intelligent olass of readers, and will not Jnfllot
upon them long-winded, double-leaded lesUhs, in
tha foolish effort to prove the exlstenoe of Hjht.-
They know th# situation as well as wo do, and
wbon waannounoo the "fim# and plaet," they will
rtoognlie their Voua" and aot accordingly.
Wo would, bdwever, urge a general attendance
oa Saturday, aad a calm, conservative •xpreaalon
of opinion, as well as a Judicious selection of Dcio.
gates.
Chowdkd.—\Yu nio compelled to go to
jirew to-dny with but five columns of read
ing matter j—this will afford our readers
tiino to review tlio adverliaiug columns
which wohopothey will do before the next
issue, so that they may be prepared to di
gest a supplement.
Axotmbb DusoLAnv—Extraordinary t'owxns
or Prirtie's Isa—The store of Messrs. Cooper &
Co., of this oity, was entered by a burglar, on
Tuesday night, and robbsd of a quantity of cloth-
ing, money and other articles The thiof orswled
under tho home at the back end, and having evl
dsntly previously measured the distanos, and loca
ted the spot to operate on, mods bis wsy sixty or

servation and aoourate measurement had been made,
aa wall aa wondaiful skill in tha art of stealing.
Messers. Cooper A Co. had, on Tuesday, caused
to be printed, at our office, a very large and at
tractive poster, headed "Cash system adopted,"
and D is thought the Printer’s Ink stimulated the
•nterprieo that Induced this wholesale and uncere
monious transfer of their goods to other parties.—
Buoh is the power of Printer’s Ink.
Gbockrb.—Mcnsru. Jab. H. Anderson A
Sonb, ad vert iso their stock of Groceries in
the News, and wo tako groat pleasure
in directing attention to their card. These
gentlemen aro well and favorably known in
Georgia. Wo hate known them from boy-
hood, and there aro no more liberal or relia
ble merchants anywhere. Prompt, ener
getic, and Aiwaya up to tho exactions of
trade, they never fail to give satisfaction,
and invariably induce a return of their cus
tomers.
Thi Blodobt Psrjcry Cass It appears thst
ws were in srfor, lu stating that a true bill was
found, and that Governor Brown made tho sfflds-
vlt. Blodgett mads the affidavit and Gover
nor Brown made tha motion before the Grand
Jury returned their finding; but it was as
certained by said Blodget and Brown that a true
bill had, or would be found, and the case was ar-
reotod while the Jury had it under consideration.
It mature not what course this csss may take ;
there is not a man in Georgia who doss not know
thst Blodget committed perjury, and there is not
one th«t knows him well, that doesn't know ho is
fully espabls, end altogether likely to do it again,
PxasoxAV^—Ws had tbs pleasure yesterday of a
lull from Mr. Cartor of tho "Importing Emporium"
of Wm- Honl,’Savannah, and were glad to learn
that he is doing good stmloe for our old friend and
comrade. W. servgd uUh Bill Hone, thirty days
onoe, under "tbs flag," for interfereing with a
"Wandersr," and had ample opportunity of testing
his csptciiy for the liquor businsao, aa wells s the
superior traits of his generous Batura. Our friends
2*ytSLUT Carter their orders
for whaUvsr they mayjrant in his line.
Thi Tomca Band—Anotubr Gin u outK
Burnt.—We learn that tho Gin House, be
longing to the cstato of It. A. Boyd, near
thia city, was destroyed by fire a few nights
ago, and that fifty hales of cotton were
consumed. It is supposed the diabolical

. Direct aTViss, of
..aooo, whose advertisement appears else
where, baa • large and elegant assortment
of English goods, bought by himself in
England, and imported direct to Savannah.
Beeidee being a clever, polite gentleman,
Mr. Wish is one of the most enterprising
merabutoinllaoou, and his efforts to build
up direct tiwde wllh tbeoid world, deserves,
and, no doubt, will receive the most »ub-
stantial evidence* of tbo people’s approcia-
*ion.
Hainhridob Extension.—Wo learn from
tho Argus that the A. A G. K. H, Co. will
have completed tl.c Road to station No 21,
to-day. This depot known an Harrell's
if seventeen miles from Hninbridge, and
eighteen west of Thomasville. The remain
der of tho track is being rapidly prepared
for the iron. Thus says the Sav. News A
Herald, it will be seen that this important
entorpriso is fur advanced in its construc
tion, and warrants tho assumption (lint it
will ho completed to Hninbridge by the 1st
t>f January, if not earlier. The great incen
tives that exist to push it forward, and the
welj-known energies of itn malinge rs, will
certainly contribute to its speedy comple
tion. Whpn that shall bo accomplished
Savannah and Hainhridgc will have entered
upon a new era. Then tho boundless re
sources of Southwestern Georgia will he de
veloped; there will he, in the course of
time, a tremendous influx of eapitul mid
population, Savannah will become the
great city of the South; and we will ho en
abled to enjoy tho benefits of our manifold
natural advantages. The enterprise of eon*
uecting tho Flint and Clmtnlioooliee livers
with this city, and through it the Gulf and
the great Southwest, is one of the grandest
flint lias ever been presented to our people,
and the successful consumatiou of which
will bo of immousu benefit, not to Savannah
and Georgin'alone, hut to the whole country.
Wo shall hail the achievement, which is
near at hand, with pride and gratification.
K£»Tifos. J. Flint A Co., of Macon, importers
and dealsrs in orookory, chinn nun*, etc., iiavo a
moat magnificent stock of J-tst such things sh good j

the proprietors and elsrks so do.or, that you can
not bring a oont out of their store unites you osrry
in a fortune. All ordsrs filled to entire satisfaction.
Try them.
Giving Advice.—Tho New York Tri-
,buno cautions the Virginia Convention
agaist ultraisin, and advises tho radicals to
let universal suffrage and universal amnesty
go together. It bids tho lenders roincinbor
that “tho power of a disfranchised minority
is greater, by reason of the power of the
principle) of justice which is crucified and
persecuted in them, than if they were enfran
chised.
