A Child’s Plea To Kipling.
The plea of a child for more an
imal stories Has induced Rudyard
Kipling to add to his series of fun
ny “Just So” tales which have
appeared in The Ladies’ Home
Journal. After the famous au
thor had published the last of
that series . there was a' flood of
letters came to the Journal asking
for more. One among these was
addressed to Mr. Kipling person
ally, and was forwarded toliim in
England. It proved to be a letter
from a child who pleaded with the
author to “give us some more sto
ries about animals; we enjoyed
your others very much. There is
not much written that we little
folks can enjoy, so please, dear
Mr.. Kipling, write something
about my pussy.” The earnest
ness and sincerity of .the child ap
pealed very strongly to Mr. Kip
ling, who is exceedingly fond of
little folks, and he writes to the
Journal saying that he is going to
grant that child’s request even if
he has to disappoint all his other
friends.

When things are “the best”
they become “the best selling.”
Abraham Hare, a leading druggist,
of Belleville, 0., writes: “ Elec
tric Bitters are the best selling
bitters I have handled in 20 years.
You know why? Most diseases
begin in disorders of stomach, li
ver, kidneys, bowels, blood and
nerves. Electric Bitters tones up
the stomach, regulates liver, kid
neys and bowels, purifies the blood,
strengthens the nerves, hence cures
multitudes of maladies. It builds

Why We Are Proud.
New Tort World.
An American citizen cannot do
better than to pause for a moment
at the new-made grave in Edgehill
Cemetery, Charlestown, W. Va.,
and ask himself: Why am I proud
that I am an American?
Because America means so many
million square miles of territory?
Because it means forty-five States
and a multitude of cities, towns,
villages and dwelling-places? Be
cause it means 75,000,000 human
beings? Because it exports and
imports are so many billions? Be
cause of any other statistical fact
of greatness?
No. But because America
means the production of such no
ble members of the human race as
this soldier, statesman, thinker,
educator, model of citizenship
whom we have just lost in the
death of William L. Wilson.
America permits and enables
men to grow from the humblest
beginning to the full stature of
sovereign manhood—that is why State of Ohio, City of Toledo I

bell in the city, which will give
notice for a grand concert by the
bands stationed through the city
at different points, and for the
blowing of all factory whistles and
bells. This will prove a very at
