—Late in the afternoon of
Christmas day Robert Bonner, a
negro farmer of near Perry, was
arrested on the charge of opera
ting a blind tiger in Perry. Some
liquor was found in his posession,
with circumstatial evidence that
he had been selling.
—Last Sunday night the store
of Mr. Clint Cooper was forcibly
entered through a front window,
and Charlie Scott,, a young negro
man was arrested early Monday
morning. The evident purpose
of the burgler was to secure mon
ey, but he failed to open the safe.
Practically nothing was missed.
The circumstantial evidence is
strong against him.

A Case Of Scarlet Fever.
The people of Perry were very
much exercised last Friday over
the report that there was a case of
scarlet fever in the family of Mr.
W. J. Moore on Armory street.
One of his daughters, Louise, was
ill with the fever. A meeting of
Council was held Friday night,
and a strict quarantine of Mr.
Moore’s family and" premises was
established.
. - All precautions have been used,
there has' been no new case, Miss
Louise, is much better, and it is
believed the disease will not
spread.‘ -

The Irl R. Hicks’ 1901 Almanac.
Whatever may be said of the sci
entific causes upon which the Rev.
Irl R. Hicks bases his yearly fore
casts of storm and weather, it is a
remarkable fact that specific warn
ings of every great storm, flood, cold
wave and drouth, have been plainly
printed in his now famous Almanac
for many years. The latest startling
proof of this fact was the destruc
tion of Galveston, Texas, on the
very day named by Prof. Hicks in
his 1900 Almanac, as one of disaster
by storm along the gulf coasts. The
1901 Almanac, by far the finest,
most complete and beautiful yet
published, is, now ready. This re
markable book of nearly two hun
dred pages, splendidly illustrated
with charts and half-tone engrav
ings, goes as a premium to every
subscriber who pays one dollar
year for Prof. Hicks’ journal, “Word
and Works.” The Almanac alone is
sent prepaid for only 25c. Order
