It was reported in Perry last week
that the storehouse of Mr. G. L. Slo-
cumb at Bonaire was burglarized on
the night of October 7th. Of the
burglary a correspondent of the Ma
con Telegraph says:
“The safe in the store was cut open
with club-axes and between $300
and $325 taken. The storehouse was
entered through a rear window, by
breaking the iron bar. A hole about
six by eighteen inches was cut in the
side of the safe. Four axes were
used, and left where the work was
done. One of the axes belonged to
Mr. Slocumb, and was brought from
his gin house, about 200 yards away.
Another belonged to Rev. J. R. Ow
ens, who lives about 300 yards away.
Another was a small chop-ax, which
was brought from a cotton seed
house close at hand, and the fourth
was a new one secured in the store,
and a handle put^in it for the pur
pose. Nothing else has been missed
from the store.
“Mr. Slocumb has no clue or sus
picion as to the guilty party. Mr.
W. A. King, another merchant of
the place, who is also the depot
agent, says he was at the station to
meet the local freight just before 10
o’clock, and did not see or hear any
thing amiss at that time.”
Local Legislation.
Notice is hereby given that at the
next session of the Georgia Legisla

passage of a bill entitled
“An Act to incorporate the Byron
School District, in Houston county,
Georgia, to define the boundaries of
same, to regulate the management
of schools in said district, to provide
revenues for said schools, io provide
for the election of seven (7) trustees
and to confer upon them certain
powers, and for other purposes.”

Roundlap Bales OpentoCompetition.
While the American Cotton Compa
ny is always in the market for round-
lap bales, it has no prior claim on
cotton baled by this process. Any
respectable cotton buyer can buy
roundlup bales at the gin and han
dle them with profit. Roundlap gin-
ners follow the custom of the neigh
borhood they serve, and as nearly as
possible comply with the preferences
of their patrons, buying in the seed,
ginning for the seed and making
cash settlement of balances, or gin
ning for custom, and paying the
highest market price for seed. They
have separate seed hoppers for each
battery of gins, so that farmers who
want their own seed for replanting
can obtain it pure. Custom bales
car be stored or taken home or sold
on the spot* Held roundlap bales
are always salable at their full mar
ket value. Farmers, or local mer
chants, or bankers who desire to
hold cotton, can carry it in roundlap
bales the same as in square bales.
While it does not advise holding,
the American Cotton Company is
prepared to make liberal advances
on roundlap bales.
