~ ^ Interest To Syrup Makers.
Hawkins ville Dispatch.
w r0f :u Vo S dbrid 8 e ’ in bis address
before the State Agricultural So
ciety in 1900, said that filtering
the juice through common moss
as it comes from the mill will pre-
vent fermentation of syrup.lt was
tried by some of our farmers last
season and found highly satisfac
tory.-^ Not having the moss pre
pared at the time of grinding last
year,we used well cured crab grass
hay and found that it answered
the purpose. We used about a BO
gallon barrel packed full of the
hay, which was changed or renew
ed every day. * The juice J filtered
throgh the hay and through an
inch auger hole in the bottom of
barrel into a tub, then poured in
to another barrel into the kettle.
Use a saehrometer, which can be
bought from S. A. Way & Co., for
75c, cook the juice until it regis
ters from 88 to 85 degrees and you
will have bright uniform syrup,
which will not ferment. Above 85
degrees the syrup will crysfcalize;
38 to 40 it will granulate and you
will have sugar at botton of bar
rel. For convenience in using the
saehrometer we had ,a tin tub
made obout 12 inches long and 1^
inches in diameter with a recepta
cle for handle like an inverted
coffee pot spout in wich was fit
ted a wooden handle. When you
wist to try the syrup, dip out the.
tub full of the hot liquid, drop
the saehrometer in it and it regis
ters the consistency. Repeat every
few minutes until it reaches 33 to
35 degrees, according to the thick
ness you wish your syrup. The
s} r rup will be all of a uniform
thickness 1 and will not crystalize,
granulate or ferment and'will keep
all summer and be as good as
when cooked.

A Physician Testifies.
“I have taken Kodol Dyspep
sia Cure and have never used any
thing in my life that did me the
good that did,” says County Phy
sician Geo. W. Scroggs of Hall
County, Ga. “Being a physician
I have precribed it and found it
to give the best results.” If the
food you eat remains undigested
in your stomach it decays there
and poisons the system. You can
prevent this by dieting but that
means starvation. Kodol Dys
pepsia Cure digests what you eat.
You need suffer from neither dys
pepsia nor starvation. The worst
cases quickly cured. Never fails.

lawyer received a new client
the other day—a big man named
Frazier, who wanted te sue to re
cover £500 advanced on a note
and.not repaid, says Tit-Bits. .
“Who is. the client?” asked the
lawyer. ' v
“Oh, she’s a relation of mine.”
“How nearly related?”
“Very nearly.”
“But, my dear sir,” persisted
the lawyer, “you must be more
explicit.”
“Well, she may be my mother-
in-law.”
“May be? Then yau are likely
to marry»her daughter?”
“I’ve already married the daugh
ter.”
“Oh, then, of course the defend
ant is your mother-in-law.”
“I guess you had better
the whole story,” said the
named Frazier.
He heaved a weary sigh
then went on : “You see, a
ago we lived together—my
Bill and I. Across the way lived
the widow Foster and her daugh
er Mary. Well, sir, I married
Mary because she was good look
ing. My son Bill married the wid
ow because she had heaps of mon
ey, Now, perhaps you can tell me
whether the old lady is my moth
er-in-law or my daughter-in-law.”
But the lawyer couldn’t—at
least, not just then. The prob
lem had struck him all in a heap.
He looked wild-eyed and his brain
was reeling.
“Perhaps, when you’ve settled
that question you’ll undertake my
suit,” Frazier added. “The old
lady borrowed the money fair and
square and she can pay it back,
but she won’t, so I’ve got to sue.”
“I don’t think I’ll take your
case,” faltere/1 the lawyer. . “The
case -er—er—presents too many
| complications.”
“By the way,” said Frazier dis
appointedly, as he took up his hat
and prepared to go, “since the
double wedding a child has been
been born to each couple. Can
you tell me what relation the two
children are to each other?”
But the lawyer couldn’t.

world should go slow, in the matter
of trying to abolish the mosquito at
one fell swoop. They assert that the
insect balance of nature may be up

the mosquito come in to take its
place. The kissing bug is pointed
