Last Friday Mr. James W. Pos
tell died at his home in Fort Val
ley, after. an illness of several
weeks;
He was 77 years of age, highly
esteemed as,a ohrstian gentleman,
a man of the highest integrity.
Prior to his removal to Fort
illey, he was. for many years a
oitized in the Haslam neighbor
hood of the Upper 14th distriot.
The greater portion of his life
he was active in church affairs,
being an earnest and faithful
member of the Methodtst church.
His acquaintanceship was wide,’
and he was affectionately known
and addressed as “Uncle Jim
mie.”
He was an uncle of t^e late
Mrs. J. N Tuttle of Perry.
Of his immediate family two
unmarriedjjdaughters survive him,
and to these and other relatives,
many friends extend cordial sym
pathy in their bereavement.

Mrs. Burch Norton, nee Miss
Annie Lizzie Miller, youngest
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. 0. H
Miller, died at her home in Fort
Valley last Subday night. The
burial was iu the Fort Valley
cemetery Monday afternoon. The
death was exceedingly sad, occur-
iug after au illness of about six
weeks. She was about 20 years
of age, and had been married less
than ten months.
She was quite popular with all
her wide circle of friends, attract
ive in person, lovable in charac
ter.
With the bereaved parents, sis
ters, brother and other dear rela
tives, many friend's sincerely sym
pathise..
County Commissioners’ court
of Houston county met iu regu
lar monthly session August 4th,
with all the members of the
Court present.
The minutes of last Court were
read and approved,
A petition was filed to make

and Houser’s mill road near old
Fellowship church, a distance of
one mile and a half.” Ordered
that petition lie over to next
Court.
The clerk of this Court was in
structed to advertise for bids for
the construction of steel and
wooden bridges over Mossy Creek
on the Maoon and Perry road
and over Bay oreek on Perry and
Fort Valley road.
It was ordered that no bridges
be built or repaired exceeding
$25.00 in cost unless authorized
by a majority of the members of
this Court.
The Georgia Iron and Coal
Company having refused to sign
the contraot agreed upon for the
hire of the misdemeanor con
viots, the convicts were leaB to
the the Higgston Lumber Com
pauy by written contraot, which
was ordered recorded on the min
utes of this Court.
It was ordered that $1,00 poll tax
of Tom Massey, deceased, be re
funded t<TJ. E. Cheek,
Whereupon, Court adjourned.

Perry went over to Marshallville
Tuesday, and in a game against
a team of that town won a victory
of 10 to 4. The^boys came home
in the rain that night, but they
were happy, all the san?e. Mar

day, and there will be a game
here that afternoon.
