of the
and nothingless than vital stag- '
nation or death if not relieved.
If every constipated sufferer
could realize that he is allowing
poisonous filth to remain in his
system, he would soon get relief.
Constipation invites all kind of
contagion. Headaches, bilious
ness, colds and many other ail
ments disappear when consti
pated bowels are relieved. Thed-
tord’s Black-Draught thoroughly
cleans out the bowels in an easy
and natural manner without the
purging of calomel or other vio
lent cathartics.

Put None But Friends on Guard.
Macon News
When Tammany comes in con
trol of the municipal government
of New York it will probably fol
low the good old Jacksonian rule
“to the victor belongs the spoils.”
We are reminded by a contempo
rary of a story told of General
Jackson that, when elected presi
dent, he proposed making a clean
sweep of office-holders, for he be
lieved that to the victor belongs
the spoils and that none but
friends should be put on guard
The then secretary of the treas
ury visited Old Hickory and said
that one man, differing in poli
tics under him, ought to be re
tained in office, because he was
indispensable, “Can you not,”
said the president, “get a Demo
crat to take his place?” There
was a negative reply. “Then,”
said Jackson, M I will abolish the
office.” The probability is that
a Democrat was found.
Once when the late S. B. Price
was mayor of Macop, he was ap
proached by one of the heads of a
city department who requested
the mayor to allow an increase in
the pay of a certain official. The
mayor hesitated in consenting to
the advance in salary, whereupon,
the aforesaid department head
urged that the official for whom
he wished the increase in pay
was “absolutely indispensable.”
“You say he ib indispensable,”
queried the mayor.
“Yes, sir; positively so,” was
the reply,
“Then you had better discharge
him,” answered the . mayor,
want no indispensable fellows
around mo,” concluded His Hon
or, as he walked off. It. is ueed-
less to say that the official con
tinued to* work'at the same old
salary.
McClellan indicated his policy,
before his election as mayor, when
ho declared, in answer to public
inquiries, that in the event of his
success in the campaign, he would
not reappoiut Police Commission
er Greene. In our opinion, “to
the victor belong the spoils,” is
splendid party and political doc
trine.

What caused the failure of
those Georgia negro colonists who
went to Liberia? An answer to
the question may be found in an
interview with one of them by a
New York reporter. “What did
you do when you got to Liberia?”
was asked one of the ex-colonists
“Didn’t do nothin’, boss; wahn’t
nothin’ for ub to do.” “Well
how did you kill time?” “Jist
settin’ ’round.” That probably
explains it. The imigrants imag
ined that it would be unnecessary
for them to work in the new
ooiintry, that they would be pro
vided with homes and food and
have nothing to do, but eat and
sleep. ; When they discovered this
wub not so, and when nobody of
fered them jobs at good wages
they spent the time “settin
’round” until they got an oppor
tunity to return to America,
the. Turner-Graves scliemb of de
portation were adopted, West Af
rica would be full of American
negroes “settin’ ‘round” waiting
to be brought back to the United
States.

and Bladder Troubles. Is Safe and Sure
If
In late years men have made
fortunes out of the tailings of gold
mines. The mills in which the
ore formerly was crushed and the
crude processes then in use al
lowed a large percentage of the
precious metal to escape, and
that loss amounted in some cases
to a fortuue. The 9tomach is just
like a stamp mill in this respect,
that when it is not in perfect or
der it allows the escape and waste
of much of the precious nutri
ment contained in the food. That
loss when continuous means the
loss of man’s greatest fortune,—
health. • Science offers a remedy
for this condition in Dr. Pierce’s
Gojden Medical Discovery. It
corrects the “weakness” of the
stomach, prevents waste and loss
of nourishment, and putB the
stomach, and organs of digestion
and nutrition into a condition of
health which enables them to
save and assimilate all the nutri
ment contained in the food whioh
Is,eaten, ; . In $11 cages of consti
pation the use of Dr. Pierce’s
Pleasant Pellets will speedily and
permanently cure the disease.

I have been greatly bothered with kidney and bladder
trouble and enlarged prostate gland. I used everythjrtg
known to the profession without relief, until I commenced
to use FOLEY’S KIDNEY CURE. After taking three hot-

physicians for such troubles, for I can honestly state I have
prescribed it in hundreds of cases with perfect success."
