PERRY HIGH SCHOOL NOTES

There wore 301 pupils enrolled
at the school up until Monday

At this time last year there
were only 260 pupils and nine
teachers. However it is said that
we are to have one new teacher
next Monday for the Grammer
school.
The Benlor class has a new
member, Miss Mary Burkett who
has been attending Lanier High
school in Macon. This make fifteen

Active basket ball practise
not yet begun as the weather is
too hot bu t the boys are shooting
a few goals every afternoon and

HLGORE-LEWIS
Mrs Lelia Rogers Kilgore an
pounces the engagement of hor
daughter, Lillian Elizabeth, to
David Gawley Lewis, the date to
be announced later.
Miss Kilgore is a graduate of
local high sshool, and later at
tended school at Lucy cobb In
stitute, at Athens. She is -of a
brunette type of beauty, and en
joys a wide popularity
Mr Lewis is a son of Mr and
Mrs Jas. A. Lewis and is a
prominent business man, being
connected with the Beach Hard
ware co columbus Enquier Sun.
Miss Lillian Kilgore is the at
tractive neioe of Mrs R. L. March-
man and enjoys the populairty of
a wide circle of friends in Perry
whom will be interesting in lier
approaching marriage.
On Tuesday 13th of sept.,, the
C. I. C. of Perry met at the
Auditorium with a fairly good
attendance. This was the first
meeting several months, 1 as in
early Summer the Club disbanded
till cooler weather.
Mrs h. P. Dobbins, as Pres.,
called the meeting to order. She
read a brief synopsis of years
work, and it is as follows:
Every meeting is called to
order by Pres and vice Pres.
Improvement of the courthouse

By asking council to meet with
us and presenting to them the
condition of the Armory building
they immediately had the rear
end oovered.
C. I. 0. had the old platform
recovered and a safer entrance
built. By renting the armory to

town.
Next in order of business was
election of officers. The following
were elected: Mrs h. p. Dobbins
pres. Mrs L. F. cater V. p., Mrs
Eliza Masses, Treas*, Mrs S. G-
Rogers Roo. Seely.
After discussing plans of work
for coming year, we adjourned to
meet on first Tuesday afternoon in
Oct. We urge all the women in
Perry to join this club and help
make our town a beautiful healthy
and pleasant place in which to
live. X

MEET TO DISCUSS BONDS
At a call meeting at thO Court
House Tuesday night a large
jaumber of Perry citizens heard
discussion on the coining water
and Light Bond Election, the
Mayor and council explau-
ing the purpose of the Bonds and
impressing on the citizens the
urgent necessety of Bonds for
Improvement in the water works
#ud Lighting system.
Short talks, and questions
asked by several citizens present
brought out facts about the present
condition of the water and light
system, as well as the financial
condition of the city which urged
for the issuance of Bonds as the
best means to the end, however
there was a dispostion on the part
of some to have- more concrete
information on the subject of the
nature of the improvement con*
teraplated the cost of some as well
as the present status of the finan
ces of the city and increase in tax
es necessary for the improvement.
The City council gladly consent
ed to furnish m exact statement
on these subjects and same will be
published in ,the Home Journal, so
that all facts will be available to
&vwy citizen before the election
comes off on October 7th.
At the meeting Tuesday night
a number of ladies took advantage
of the opportunity to register and
their, vote will be a factor in the
joining election,'
