IM MEMORIAM OF
DR. C. R. MANN
Sergeant Clinton C. Duncan
Chapter United Daughters of the
Confederacy, o'er the tnemory of
its belovoti friend and soldier of
the "Confederacy" to day, floats
the Stars and Bars of the beloved
cause,
"And its star? ever gleam like
the stars up above,
While its folds ever seem to be
whispering of love."
Ay, tl?e love of a people for
those who fought under its folds
for freedom of thought and in
dependence of action. Dr. C. R.
Mann followed its fortunes, whem,
as a boy of sixteeu, he left school
to defend his home aud country.
Brave, courageoi.s, indomitable
in war, he il'ustrated to the world
the ideal soldier. Gentle, tender,
faithful, as a physician, in his
?arly manhood, he idealized the
practice of medicine, and placed
his profession on a jet higher
pedestal of honor.
As deep in the hearts of his
comrades at aigns, he rests to-day
so deep lie lies in the hearts of
those to whom he ministered in
sickness and in sorrow.
But yesterday you walked with
step so free.
These streets of yours which you
had loved so well,
With love se true, it rose t?
heaven?a song.
Floating in echoes back, while we
who listened, we
Who called jou Friend, stood
silenced by its majesty.
Now hearts from out their depths
of grief
Cry out to all mankind' their
dear belief,
In Loyalty and Honor which thy
life did make them see,
To us who knew yon well, Love
tells us of a Past.
Of gentleness and strength which
in Heaven's die was cast.
Yonr name is writ in Life's great
book,
In characters on whieh eye loves to
look.
You left us! and this incense up
to God wo send.
He was, that.greatest gift of God
to man, a friend
