January 17th:
Whereas Congress and the Presi
dent of the Cnited States gracious
ly authorized the mintage of live
million Hidf Dollars a* a memorial
to "the valnr of the Soldier of the
Sout h." and.
Whereas the Stone Mountain
Confederate Monumental Associa
tion is distributing these coins at
?1.00 each, using the premium of
fift y cents to carve on Stone Moun
tain the greatest monument of all
times to the soldiers of the South;
Whereas the Governors of the
Southern States have each accept
ed for their lespectivo States a
quota of these coins calculated on
the basis of white population and
bank deposits, and h ive jointly ad
dressed an appeal to the South
ern people declaring it to he their
sacred duty to buy these coins ;'8
evidence of their appreciation of
t he Act of Congress under which
they were minted; and.
Whereas the Stone Mountain
Confederate Monumental Associa
tion has served notice on the
several < ?overnors that the Harvest
Campaign for the distribution of
these coins must close by January
23rd; therefore,
I, Clifford Walker, Governor of
fJeorgia, do hereby issue this, my
proclamation, to the people of this
State, calling upon them to take
notice of the Act of Congress and
to show their appreciation of the
Home;

fact that, the birthday of General
Lee, January H>, and the birthday
of Genor.il Jackson, January 21,
whose images appear on the face
of these coin?, will occurr during
the week above mentioned, and to
the further fact that the mintage
of these coins was commenced one
year ago on the birthday of
(Joneral Jackson, to-wit, January
21, 1925;
Third, I appeal to the churches,
schools, civic clubs, patriotic
organizations and other bodies, to
arrange special programs in honor
of t he occasion.
