MRS. JOHN WARREN BIRDSONG
Miss Collier Wed
To Mr. Birdsong
On Saturday, June 29th at
11 a.m. at the Presbyterian
Church in Perry, Miss Carol
Louise Collier became the bride
of John Warren Birdsong in the
presence of the couple’s im
mediate family.
® Officiating at the double ring
ceremony was Rev. Mark E.
Gutzke. Serving as the groom’s
best man was A/lc Kenneth D.
Bryant. Mrs. William J. Foy
attended her sister as matron of
honor. She wore a blue crepe
dress with a beige bodice
trimmed with blue velvet ribbon
and a yellow carnation corsage.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, was lovely in a
street length white crepe dress
with lace bell sleeves. Her tiny
veil of silk illusion fell from a
small circlet of crystal and seed
pearls. She carried a white
prayer book of her sister’s upon
which was placed a cascade of
bride’s roses and stephanotis.
Immediately following the
ceremony the bride’s parents
entertained with a wedding lun
cheon at the New Perry Hotel.
Afterwards the couple left for a
short wedding trip to Panama
City, Fla., and are at home at
103 Linkwood Drive, Apartment
1", Earner Robins.
The bride is the daughter, of
Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Collier of
Perry. She graduated from Perry

The groom, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Hugh Birdsong of Dalton,
graduated from Tullahoma High
School, Tullahoma, Tenn. and
attended Georgia Military Col
lege, Milledgeville. He served
four years in the United States
Air Force and is employed by
WPGA, Perry.
Mr. and Mrs. Max Crook of
Macon spent the holidays with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert
McNeill.

Rites Solemnized
Miss Julia Ann Simpson and
William Harrison Elliott were u
nited in marriage in a ceremony
which took place at 5 o’clock
Saturday afternoon in the First
Baptist Church in Perry. The
Rev. Dan Hodges was the offi
ciating minister.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. John Paul Simpson
of Moultrie and the bridegroom
is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tho
mas William Elliott of Kite, Ga.
In the church, decorations of
emerald fern trees and antique
white candelabra with white ta
pers formed the background for
the focal arrangement of white
gladioli, large white mums and
white carnations. In the choir
loft were emerald fern trees and
on each side of the pulpit were
branched candelabra with white
tapers backed by foliage trees.
Miss Patsy Bynum, organist,
provided the wedding music.
Sammy Elliott, brother of the
bridegroom, was best man and
the usher-groomsmen were Billy
Herndon, cousin of the bride,
Larry Benton and Donnie Hutche
son of Macon, and Perry Edge,
Perry.
Miss Betty Maxwell, of Cairo
was maid of honor and the
bridesmaids included Mrs. Rob
ert Hulbert of Endicott, New
York, cousin of the bride, and
Mrs. Sammy Elliott of Crestview,
Fla.
Their daffodil yellow chiffon
dresses were floor length and
featured an oval neckline and
elbow length sleeves. A band of
daisies trimmed the empire
waistline. Their veils were at
tached to matching flower head
pieces and they carried bouquets
of mixed foliages centered with
a Galax rose arranged in a
cascade design.
Given in marriage by her fath
er, the bride wore a gown of
debestered Peau do Soie, fea
turing a scalloped high neckline
that was outlined in re-embroid
ered alencon lace, and sprinkled
with seed pearls. The short
sleeves were edged with a re
peat of lace. The detachable
shoulder chapel length train was
outlined with alencon lace. A
pearl crown held her bouffant
French silk illusion veil and she
carried a cascade design of
feathered carnations, and lilies (
of the valley with an orchid.
After the ceremony Mr. and
Mrs. Simpson entertained at a
reception in the social hall of
the church.
The bride’s table was covered
with a white satin cloth and a
dorned with a silver compote
holding white chrysanthemums,
carnations • and yellow roses.
Completing the appointments was
a silver candelabrum holding
white tapers. A satin cloth was
used on the refreshment table
and at either side of the punch
bowl were candelabra with white
tapers.
Immediately following the re
ception the bride and groom
left for a wedding trip. Upon
their return they will make their
home in Perry.
Bridal Parties
Miss Simpson and Bill Elli
ott, were complimented at a re
hearsal dinner given Friday
evening by his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Thomas William Elliott of
Kite, Georgia. The party was
held at the Colonial Restaurant
and places were set for about
25 guests.
White lace cloths were used
on the tables where the members
of the wedding party were seat
ed. The table was graced with

Perry Hotel was the scene Fri
day for a luncheon honoring Miss
Simpson, her attendants, and
other friends. The hostess was
Miss Anita Ray.
The guests included the bride
elect and Mrs. Paul Simpson,
Mrs. Tom Elliott, Miss Betty
Maxwell, Mrs. Robert Hulbert,
Mrs. Sammy Elliott, Miss Juli
Bush, Miss Rita Carney, Miss
Pat Gordon, Miss Sherry Haga
man and Mrs. Riley Hunt.
The table was covered with
a white cloth and the arrange
ment of summer flowers was cen
tered on the luncheon table.
The men of the wedding party
were entertained at Pritchett’s
Lodge on Wednesday evening.
Perry Edge was host and 25
guests and the bridegroom-elect
attended.
Mrs. Joe Roper and son. Bud
dy, spent the holiday weekend in
Carrollton with her son, Joel
Roper, and Mrs. Roper.

Mr. and Mrs. Linton N. Mathews
announce the engagement of their
daughter, Bettye Lynn Mathews
to Jerry Wayne Johnson, son of
Mrs. Mary PL Johnson of Route
I, Kathleen, and Morris E.
Johnson of Perry.
Miss Mathews is a graduate of
Fort Volley High School and
attended Georgia Southern Col
lege in Statesboro. She is em
ployed at Robins AFB.
Mr. Johnson is a graduate of
Perry High School and also
Abraham Baldwin Agricultural
College. He is a student at the
University of Georgia.
The marriage will take place
August 11, at the Fort Valley
Methodist Chapel with Elder C.
E. Darity presiding.
