Houston 4—H Members
Attend Big Meeting
Rock Eagle, the State 4-H
Center, was the scene of the
recent Southwest District
Project Achievement Meeting.
Houston County boys and girls
joined nearly 350 Four-H
champions from some 25 area
counties for the 1970 achieve
ment meeting. The theme of the
event was “The 4-H Dream”.
Those boys and girls
participating from Houston
County and their respective
demonstrations were as follows:
Sheila Bynum (Senior Dress
Revue), daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. W. D. Bynum of Perry;
Margaret Dudney (Junior
Clothing Demonstration),
daughter of Mr and Mrs. Roy
P. Dudney of Warner Robins;
Doris McDonald (Junior Dress
Revue), daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. D. L. McDonald of Warner
Robins; Fredrick L. Thomas
(Junior Wildlife), son of Mrs.
Barbara Thomas of Centerville;
Kenneth Rodolff (Junior
Electric), son of Mrs. and Mrs,
John I. Rodolff of Warner
Robins; David Perry (Junior
Dog Care and Training), son of
Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Perry
of Warner Robins and Tony
Tyson (Junior Swine Demon-
stration), son of Mr. and Mrs.
Willie J. Tyson of Perry.
These 4-H’ers competed
against other boys and girls
from across the district in
their respective projects. The
judging is based on a 40
percent record score and a 60
percent demonstration score,
Thp records are compiled from
the 4-H’ers past participation
and accomplishments in 4-H
club work. The demonstration
given by the 4-H’ers is from
8 to 12 minutes in length plus
a question and answer session
with the julges at the end of
his demonstration. Those
girls in dress revue are judged
on the clothing which they
have made plus their records.
When the final scores were
in, Houston County had two
District Winners. Tony Tyson
in Junior Swine and David
Perry in Junior Dog Care and
Training were first place
winners and thus spotlighted
during the traditional 4-H
“Parade of Winners” at the
climax of the three-day event,
June 14-16. Also placing
second in this competitive
event was Kenneth Rodolff in
Junior Electric and Fredrick
Thomas in Junior Wildlife.
All the local 4-H’ers
consider themselves winners,
regardless of whether they took
top honors in their projects.
Assembly programs, vesper
services, group discussions,
new friends and recreational
activities were also features
of the district program.
For the Junior members, n
district title is us high ns
