Business Women
Hold Picnic
The Perry Business Women’s
Club met Thursday night, July
9. at the Ochlahatchee Club
House for their annual picnic.
Members were asked to come
dressed as hobos, and after a
delicious picnic supper we were
entertained by a band playing
various instruments and selec
tions. The band was composed
of Betty Roper, Sara Satter
field, Juanita Mason. Eris Sat
terfield, Mary Satterfield: Jan
ice Satterfield, Jenny Kelly, Is
abell Schell, Mabel Hunt, Betty
Griffin and Ruth Todd.
A vote was taken for the best
Hobo Outfit and first prize
went to Juanita Mason; second
prize to Isabell Schell.
The Horse Show the Business
Women's Club is sponsoring
will be held July 26 at Pitzer
Dairy Farm, 1 p. m.

Optimist Club Youth
Football Coming To Perry
Plans are now being made to
enlarge the Optimist \outh
Football from a city ot Warner
Robins operation to a county
wide program. The Optimist
Football Program was started
in 1959 with four football teams.
Last year, 1939, there were
30 teams which took part in
this program. There were 700
in uniform and approximately
475 girls participated in the
cheerleading program.
The expansion of this pro
gram this year will be into the
county and Recreation Depart
ment officials hope that there
will be teams from Perry, Cen
terville, Bonaire, Warner Rob
ins, and Robins Air Force Base.
There is a possibility of having
ton County this year.
The program is a uniquely
operated one using a feeder
system of Miles, which consists
of 7 and 8 year old boys; B’s
consist of 9 and 10 year old
boys; and A's which consists of
11, 12, and 13 year old boys.
No boy who weighs over 115
pounds is allowed to play in
this program. There is no
weight limit except this 115
pounds on the Mite Division;
and 85 weight limit in the B
Division; and the 115 weight
limit in the A Division. Each
team is operated as a system,
such as the A team and its
coaches are the head coach of
the system. The B team is in
the same system under the A
head coaches and the Miles the
same. The Mites will feed to
the B and the B will feed to the
A’s.
Registration will begin in
Perry on July 25 at 9 a. m. at
the Perry Gymnasium. Regis
tration will be held on this dale
along with August 1 and August
8 from 9 a. m. to 12 noon un
der the direction of Tom Mur
phy of the Houston County Rec
reation Department and Coach
Don Garland, who is also em
ployed this summer by the
Houston County Recreation De
partment. All boys age 7
through 13 as of September 1
this year are eligible to regis
ter. As these boys register, they
will be given an information
sheet concerning the rules and
regulations of the program,
when they may come and be
weighed, and when they may
be issued their uniforms. Uni
forms and weigh-in will lake
place at one central location in
Warner Robins at the Recrea
tion Center. All boys from Per
ry who registered will be pick
ed up by the Houston County
Recreation Department, brought
to Warner Robins, issued equip
ment and weighed, and carried
back to Perry.
The registration in Bonaire
will be handled the same as the
Perry registration, but will be
under the dirction of volunteer
Ed Law and members of the
Bonaire Recreation Committee.
Registration will be held on
July 25, August 1, and August
8 from 9 until 12 noon at Bon
aire Elementary School.
Registration for the Center
ville boys will be held July 25,
August 1, and August 8 from 2
p. m. until 5 p. m. under the
direction of Tom Murphy, and
registration will be held at the
Centerville Youth Center.

Uniforms for these boys from
Perry. Bonaire, anil Centerville
will be issued around August 15
and 22. Following is a list of
rules and regulations and an in
formation sheet which will be
passed out to each boy who reg
isters for the program. One im
portant thing to remember is
that there will be a $5 fee for
every boy, and this fee must be
paid before a uniform will be
issued.
All girls from Perry, Bonaire
and Centerville if 7 years of
age through 13 are invited to
register for the Optimist Youth
Football Program on July 25,
August 1, and August 8. Regis
tration will be held at the Per
ry High School Gymnasium in
Perry on these dales from 9 a.
m. till 12 noon, in Bonaire at
the Bonaire Elementary School
from 9 until 12 noon, and in
Centerville at the Centerville
Youth Center from 2 p. m. un
til 5 p. m. Any girl who is ti
years of age or under may reg
ister and be eligible to become
a mascot only. The cut off dale
for the cheerleaders is the
same as the football players,
Sept. 1 of the current year.
The cheerleading program has
grown each year and has be
come almost as large as the
football program. It is very im
portant that each football team
have a group of cheerleaders to
County Completes
New Roads Work
Houston County has had 13
miles of new paved roads and
18 miles of resurfaced roads
and streets completed in the
last 60 days, according to coun
ty administrative assistant
Andy Chaffin.
The resurfacing and paving,
which was done in all parts of
the county, was completed at a
cost to the county of $65,000 for
the paving and $76,958 for the
