Houston is among the
leading counties measured
in per capita student par
ticipation.
A major campaign was
launched to identify Robins
AFB to motorists along
Interstate Highway 75. The
chapter secured a surplus
MACE missile to mark the
Warner Robins and Robins
AFB exit, and under a new
contract to upgrade the high
way’s signs, Robins AFB will
now be included.
A two-fold effort has been
launched to acquaint
community leaders with the
importance of Robins AFB to
the area, not only in
economic terms, but in
terms of the vast social,
cultural and periphery
benefits. Part of this effort
was coining the slogan,
“Every Day Is Air Force
Appreciation Day” in Middle
Georgia.
The educational effort
resulted in more than 300 j
subscriptions to Air Force
Magazine being sent to
leaders in 22 area counties,
and the awarding of AFA
memberships to Georgia’s
Congressional delegation
and to state leaders.
“We are proudest of our
program to acquaint the
people of Georgia on the
plight of our prisoners of war
and those carried as missing
in action,” he said. “We
began with a smyposium on
the subject, attended by a
former POW, and by in
terested leaders of the AFA,
and representatives of POW
MIA family organizations.
Our sympsium idea spread
to the state level, and has
now been adopted nationally.
In this way, interested
citizens meet face to face
with the people most directly
involved, and learn the facts.
Additionally, we were able to
find overseas channels
through which to forward
mail.”
Dr. Callahan believes that
the chapter has been a major
force in the expansion of the
AFA in Georgia, and that
new chapters will be spon
sored in the coming year.
"I think that most people
realize that if you are truly
interested and concerned
with our own area, con

of the feelings and sen

“It is my belief that the AFA
