The first annual Ochlahatchee Invitational
Basketball Tournament is now history. The
double-elimination affair, held at Westfield’s
beautiful gym, was another step forward for
Perry’s drive towards recreation for adults.
The young men who participated in this year’s
event gave a lot of perspiration, and effort, to
make the tournament a reality. The civic clubs of
Perry are to be congratulated ... It was a wor
thwhile venture.
The OIT champion Kiwanis Club placed two
players on the first annual all tournament team.
Leahman Stanley - unanimous selection for MVP
honors - joined teammate George Nunn on the star
studded squad. Stanley was the leading scorer in
the tourney with scoring outputs of 24, 27 and 40
points for a 33.3 average. The GSU product rattled
the nets at a 63 percent clip from the floor. Nunn
averaged 13 ppg and was one of the leading
rebounders of the meet
The Rotary Club finished third in the tour
nament and berthed hot-shooting Gary Bishop on
the all-star team. Bishop, who specializes in 25-
foot bombs from the outside, average 17 ppg.
Representing the Exchange Club on the all-star
team is guard Randall Daniel. Randall dropped in
12 ppg during the tournament and was one of the
finest ball handlers in the tournament. The PW
manager recorded more steals than any other
performer.
Last but not least on the all-star first five is the
Civitan Club’s Richard Erwin. The PJHS coach
was the leading rebounder in the tournament and
played a vicious defense.
Making honorable mention for their play in the
OIT were: Chuck Scott (Exchange), John Warlick
and Danny Shelton (Civitan), David Walker
(Rotary) and Ed Beckham (Kiwanis).
The final standing for the OIT championship
were : Kiwanis (W 3 - LO), Civitans (W 2 - L 2),
