Coach Dave Crockett’s 7th
-Bth Grade Panthers of Perry
Jr. High won their final
regular season game
Monday afternoon defeating
Warner Robins Jr. High 7-5
in 10 innings. The Baby Cats
finish the regular season
with 6 wins and 2 losses. The
Cats finished in a tie with

Robins for first place in the
County Jr. High League. A
play-off game will decide the
county champion.
The Perry team opened up
a five run lead by scoring 3
runs in the third and 2 runs in
the fifth while pitcher Duane
Murphy held the Warriors at
bay. The game appeared on
ice until the bottom of the
seventh when the Warriors
rallied to tie the score and
send the game into extra
innings.
The Warriors tied the
score on two doubles, a
single, a walk, and a Panther
error. Neither team could
score through the Bth and 9th
innings. Perry then took the
lead in the top of the tenth.

Murphy reached on a
Warrior error. James
Hillson singled to send
Murphy to second. A balk by
the Warrior pitcher moved
the runners to third and
second into good scoring
position. Shortstop Lloyd
Turner then hit a fly ball

home after the catch. Hillson
tagged and moved to third.

received all the batting
support he needed when the
Panthers exploded for five
runs in the bottom half of the
third inning, highlighted by a
prodigious grand slam home
run by Curtis Booney. For
the contest, Clarington gave
up only three singles, walked
none and fanned nine in
going the entire route.
The region confrontation
was a scoreless affair for the
first two innings, until the
home-standing Panthers
opened the doors in the third.
Perry loaded the bases, with
two out, and then broke the
ice when catcher Jerry
Barnes surprised the Tech
men with a perfectly placed
bunt that brought across
the first run of the game.
With the bases jammed with
Panthers again, Curtis
Booney got hold of a Mickey
Claxton fast ball and sent it
soaring into the far reaches
of right field. Booney’s
“slam” made the count 5-0,
and from that point on the
issue was never in doubt.
Perry chased another run
over the pay station in the
sixth when Barnes rapped a
single and scored on a long
triple by the left-hand hitting
Booney.
Bibb Tech mounted their
only scoring threat in the
final inning by collecting two
of their three hits. The Tech
bid to spoil Clarington’s
George Taylor. 7tn Flight:

their brothers and friends.
