Harris, Green Shine In
Area District Track Meet
On Sat., May 6th, Ferry’s
Jada Harris and I .eon Green
were super in their efforts as
they represented Houston
County in a District track
meet made up of three area
teams. The meet was held in
Warner Kobins International
Stadium and consisted of
teams from Milledgeville,
Ga., Kobins Air Force Base
and Houston County |as
represented by kids from
Centerville, Ferry and
Warner Kobins). This was a
meet of boys and girls ages
10 through 14. Those
tracksters who finished first
or second in their events
were selected to represent
our District in the upcoming
State track meet to be held
this Saturday in Warner
Kobins. Kntries from all
over the State will come
from other District areas
who have public recreation
track teams.
The Houston County team
was the winner, by a large
margin, with Milledgeville
placing second and Kobins
Air Force Base taking third.
Ferry will furnish two real
fine track stars to the
Houston County entry. Their
credentials are impressive
as they were earned through
three regular track meets, a
County wide meet and the
District meet. Jada and 1 .eon
proved they merited their
selection to this group of all
stars by being both con
sistent and high scorers
Perry Girls Nab 2nd & 4th
Perry girls, age 9 and 10,
captured second place with a
team score of 31 points. Jada

terrific 17 points as she won
first place in Uie second heat
of the 100 yard dash In 14.1,

Broad jump.
Myrtice Walker strongly
aided her teams cause by
placing second in the first
heat of the 100 yard dash and
placing third in the Broad
jump Myrtice scored 9
personal points. The 440
yard relay team in this age
group was fantabulous in
that the team was composed
of Pamela Walker and Alnita
Lasseter from the eight year
olds to run the first and
second legs of the relay.
Jada ran the third leg and
Myrtice was the anchor
runner. Even with the two 8
year olds this group took
second place adding five
more points to their team
total.
This meet was held on
April 24th and was composed
of four teams. Tracksters
from Perry competed with
the Chargers, Roadrunners
and Westside Wildcats of
Warner Robins.
Perry’s age 8 and under
girls took a fourth place as
they earned 22 points.

the 100 yard dash and Leon

points to his teams total.
Perry was also
represented in the District

three Warner Robins boys in
a 440 yard relay. That team
placed third, earning 4
points, therefore Cornelius
will not be in the State meet.
In the 12 year old, 440 relay,
Perry had a fine team
consisting of Bernard
Lasseter, William Hill,
Grady Vance and an
chorman lieon Green. This
team earned 4 points by
finishing third. This group
will not be in the State meet.
Perry kids supplied 22 of
Houston County 's total

place in the Softball throw

second in the High jump.
Pamela earned 12 points and
Alnita scored 10 points.
Camille Sumner per
formed very hard in several
events for the eleven and
twelve age group but was
unable to score points She
always runs her best and is
an eager competitor.
liOretta Lasseter earned 4
points in the Broad jump for
the 13 and 14 year olds. She
participated in several other
events always trying her
best for Perry.
In three meets against
nine opponents the age 8 and
under girls scored a total of
105 points finishing first, first
and fourth in that order. By
the same token our 9 and 10
year olds scored a total of
1064 points in the same
number of meets and against
the same competition. Their
finishes were second all
three times -a very con
