Crash Wilson Coming
To MGR Friday Night
Ron (Crash) Wilson, who
defies death for a living, will
present as a grand finale to
Friday night’s stock car
racing program at Byron-
Middle Georgia Raceway,
his famous ice wall crash.
Wilson, who has appeared
on the Steve Allen Show
seventeen times and on the
Wide World of Sports twice,
is noted for two acts.
The other is a head-on
crash with another
automobile, and he will
perform that feat following
the regular fifty lap feature
event.
broke the game open with an
11 run third and 9 run fifth.
The Panthers bashed out 17
hits in the game. Alvin Boone
was the winning pitcher as
he hurled a good game by
fanning 12 and walking 2 plus
giving 5 hits.
Perry’s big guns were
Chris Mitchell, 4 for 5 in
cluding a homer. Power
hitting Bernard Lasseter had
4 for 5 with a triple and 2
doubles. Alvin Boone was 2
for 2 plus three intentional
walks. Cedric Dean, Jeff
Roundtree and Ken Collins
had 2 hits each. Other
Panthers were Marion
Soloman, Ernest Peavy,
Bobby Morrison, Cliff
Harper, Roy Hill, Kelvin
Askew, John McGhee and
Terry Askew.
The Panthers are now tied
for first with the Bonaire
Braves. In a playoff if Perry
wins they are the Division
champs. If Bonaire wins
they must play a no contest
game and if they win they
still must beat Perry again.
Wilson's wife was killed
while participating in the
head-on crash with him four
years ago. His 14-year old
son, Randy, now assists him
in the acts.
“This is the greatest thrill
act in the business,” said the
50-year old Wilson, who has
been in the Perry area
promoting the show.
He has been crashing
automobiles ever since
answering an advertisement
on a billboard for a thrill
driver when he was only 17
years old.
Although Wilson has been
old: Bobby Darnell (First), Tee Tolleson
(Second), Danny Myers (Third).
Back row • 14 and older: David Vuxta (First),
Bud Ogletree (Second), Lamar Brown (Third). 13
year old group; Keith Newberry (First), Jay
Ragland (Second), and Ben Smith (Third).
Jr. Tigers
Lose 11-2
John Williams of the
Warner Robins Jets tossed a
nifty fourhitter as he beat the
Jr. league Tigers of Perry
11 to 2. Maurice Daniel,
Derrick Soloman and Ricky
Allen each had a Perry hit.
The Tiger lineup also in
cluded Milton Walker,
James Hillson, Anthony
Grace, Robert Soloman,
Keith Hudson, Randy Green,
Keevin Griffin, Jeff Thomas,
Mark Bramlett and Steve
Mitchelll.
Demons Fall
To Flyers
David Cook threw a tough
one hitter against the Jr.
League Perry Demons as the
Warner Robins Flyers won
injured many times doing his
thrill act, he steadfastly
refuses to quit. “I used to
think about quitting, but not
any more,” he said.
Wilson’s father was an
automobile racer who died in
a speedway accident.
Friday night’s racing card
will begin at 8:30 P.M. at
Byron-Middle Georgia
Raceway with two 15-lap
heats and a 30-lap con
solation, followed by the 50-
lap feature event. Gates
open at 6:00 P.M.
18 to 3. Jess Wright got the
only Demon hit and drove in
a run. Sam Johnson drew a
bases loaded walk, hence an
RBI for him. Roy Mathis
scored one Demon run on
fine baserunning after a wild
pitch. Wayne Scott and Jeff
Vogt scored the other Demon
runs.
The Demons were down 9-0
in the first as errors
destroyed them. Mathis
came on in relief of James
Richardson in the first and
only allowed 6 hits. He
deserved a better break. The
only Demon bright spots
were Jess Wright’s
baserunning antics which
drove the Flyer pitcher
crazy as he tried about 15
pickoffs (without success).
Jeff Vogt caught a good
game in that he hasn’t
caught a game in two years.
Kevin Smith, Demon
centerfielder made two
tremendous running catches
of balls hit in the right-center
power alley to rob hitters of
extra base raps. With a
runner on second a single hit
in the gap was cut off by
Smith who threw a one
bounce strike to home fore
ing the runner back to third.
Smith also made several
other plays in center. David
Hickey, Tyrone Hickey,
Garret Hickey and Garret
Milton also played for Perry.
Mathis struck out 9 Flyers
in the five inning game.
Perry Cubs
Rap Giants
In a rugged “B” league
game the Perry Cubs won
over the Warner Robins
Giants 14 to 11. Randy
Lumpkin led the Cubs with 2
for 3. The Giants best was
Doug Brewer with 2 for 3.
Cub players: Tim Albritton,
Ed Porter, David Thompson
each had a base rap. John
Adams, Tom Stokes, Kelvin
Ross, Kenny Payne, Jeff
Allen, Scott Westmoreland,
Greg Shellnutt and Jimmy
Merritt played for the Cubs
in the game.
Tigers Maul
Centerville
Led by the home run blasts
of long ball belters Carlton
Clarington Jr. (2) Debro Hill
and Charlie Oilier the “B”
league Tigers mauled the
Centerville Eagles 22 to 1
and thereby remained un
defeated. Clarington was the
leading Tiger hitter with 3
hits and has help in the form
of Doug King and Doyle Lane
Jr. with 2 hits apiece. Other
Tigers with a safety were
Rick Harding, Debro Hill,
Danny Rush. Tigers in the

Jr. Demons
Lose 12-6

the Jr. League Perry
Demons 12 to 6. At the end of
3 innings the Eagles led 5-4.
Eagles scored 4 in the first
on hit batter, error, walk and
two pop singles around
stolen bases and other-
Demon miscues.
The Demon second saw
Kevin Smith lead with a
walk, a Jeff Vogt single,
Wayne Scott hit by a pitch,
Sam Johnson safe on a
fielders choice by second
sacker who forced Smith at
the plate on the grounder.
Vogt and Scott scored on a
wild pitch coupled with a
throwing error, other
runners moving to second
and third. James Richardson
singled for 2 RBIs plating
Johnson and Garret Hickey.
In the 4th Johnson led with
a single and moved to third
on Richardsons double.
Johnson scored on Roy
Mathis’ ground out to
second. In the 7th, after one
out and a David Hickey walk
Jess Wright blasted a long
triple to deep center plating
Hickey but Wright was out at
the plate trying for an inside
the park homer. Only a great
relay throw cut Wright
down. Wayne Scott playing
second in his first game did
an excellent job of fielding
his position.
Wright struck out eleven in
the game, including the
clean up hitter his first four
times at bat. Richardson’s 2
for 4, including a double led
the Demons.
Joe Andrews
Blanks Darts
The strong arm of Perry
Cougar Joe Andrews tossed
a two hitter to beat the
Warner Robins Darts 9 to 0.
Andrews only allowed a
harmless single in the 4th
and sth. Andrews whiffed
nine in the five innings. Earl
Brown had 2 for 3 to lead the
Cougars. Mo Wright,
Bonner and Joe Andrews
each had a Cougar hit.
