‘Tis peach time in Georgia, and
Saturday morning a lovely Georgia
Peach, the Georgia Peach Queen,
Cathy Pinson, visited Perry. She was
a guest of The Bank of Perry where
she greeted customers and guest
s, handing them luscious Georgia
Peaches and Peach Ice Cream.
Today we pay tribute to the
“Georgia Peach”, and hope that you
will promote this delicious Georgia
product, and serve the wonderful
dishes that may be prepared with
Georgia Peaches, The com
plimentary cookbook, Georgia Peach
Recipes, is full of peach recipes for
your enjoyment.
Cathy Pinson as Georgia Peach
Queen has toured the state this year
making television appearances and
visiting banks throughout Georgia to
promote the Georgia Peach. She also
toured Tennessee, and spent two
weeks in Florida promoting the
famous Georgia Peach. Perry marks
the end of Cathy’s Peach Tour.
Cathy and her mother, Cathryn
Pinson, dropped in my shop for a little
visit, and we had such a good time
chatting about mutual friends. I have
selected the Peach Queen’s favorite
peach dish, Quick Peach Cobbler for
our Nook; 1 think that it will also be a
favorite of yours. The Queen’s
mother, Cathryn Pinson, gave me a
recipe for a Magic Pound Cake and
who doesn’t love magic! Methinks a
bowl of Georgia Peaches with cream
and sugar along with a slice of this
Magic Pound Cake is to be compared

QUICK PEACH COBBLER
Melt 1 stick of margarine in an
average size dish (approximately 9 x
12 inches). Add 1 cup of sweet milk to
1 cup of self-rising flour and 1 cup of
sugar. Mix these 3 ingredients
thoroughly and add to the melted
margarine. Add 4 cups of sliced
peaches (sweetened to taste) and do
not stir. Bake at 375 degrees F. for
approximately 40 minutes or until
browning is noted.
This is excellent served while
warm. For extra flavor top with
whipped or vanilla ice cream.
Note: Canned or frozen peaches
may be substituted for fresh. If plain
flour is used, add 2 teaspoon of baking
powder.

" What are nature’s signs
J in the sky which tell us of
approaching rain?
There are many clues if
one will observe the sky,
wind, etc,, carefully. The
best-known is a falling ba
rometer but there are others
which require no instru
ments.
Low clouds are a clue,
especially in summer. A
rainbow to the windward is
another sign. Smoke curling
downward and staying close
to the earth is yet another.
More distant clues can be
found by watching the moon,
a halo or web-like cirrus
clouds high in the sky usu
ally mean coming rain--may
be a day away. In summer
and at some other times of
the year a dry morning
(without dew) indicates rain.
It can also be “felt” as
it approaches by women
with sensitive hair, by many
with arthritis or creaky
joints, and by many animals,
which can be observed
closely as forecasters.
