Glyn Gibson Killed Near Perry In This Van

Auto Wreck Here
Claims Youth’s Life
one man was killed and
another seriously injured in
an accident three miles
south of Perry on U.S. 341
Friday, August 4.
Fatally injured was Steven
Glyn Gibson, 19, of Route 1,
Hawkinsville, driver of a
1967 GMC van truck. Ulysses
McKenzie 29, of East Church
Street, Fort Valley, driver of
a 1968 Plymouth sedan,
suffered a concussion and
multiple lacerations. Both
were taken to Perry-Houston
County Hospital.
According to records at the
local State Patrol post,
Gibson was traveling north
on 341 and McKenzie was
traveling south. Gibson
attempted to pass an
unknown vehicle and was
meeting McKenzie; both
vehicles left the road in an
attempt to avoid impact and
collided head-on on the
shoulder of the road. Tpr. W.
I. Blount, Sr. investigated.
No charges were made.

Tpr. James M. Goswick
investigated another ac
cident August 4, this one on
Ga. 127 at its intersection
with Gray Road. Jennifer J.
Ratliff, Box 532, Perry, was
traveling west on Ga. 127 in a
1968 Buick and gave a signal
to make a right turn, then
changed the directional
signal prior to approaching
the intersection, records
show. She then attempted to
turn left into Gray Road.
Woodrow W. Dukes, 111
Johns Road, Warner Robins,
was traveling west on 127 in
a 1971 Ford, passed another
vehicle and attempted to
pass the Ratliff vehicle,
skidded approximately 50
feet and struck the vehicle in
the left side. No charges
Mrs . Moss Injured Severely
Moss Family Issues
Appeal For Assistance
Mrs. Jerry Moss of Route
1, Kathleen, was injured
severely in an automobile
accident on July 14 and is a
patient at Houston County
Hospital in Warner Robins.
Mrs. Moss has had leg and
hip surgery and must have
back surgery in the near
future. It is estimated that
she will be hospitalized for
six weeks to two months
longer. Due to the nature of
her injuries, she has been
were made.

An accident at Dunbar
Road and Long Street was
investigated by Tpr. James
M. Goswick on August 5. Will
Stephens, Route 1 Box 838,
Warner Robins, was
traveling south on Long
Street in a 1966 Chevrolet
and applied brakes to stop at
the intersection. He skidded
114 feet before striking a 1970
Oldsmobile driven by
William L. Herman, 220
Knodishall Drive, Warner
Robins, which was traveling
east on Dunbar Road.
Matta Herman was
treated at Houston County
Hospital for bruises to the
left arm. Stephens was
charged with failure to grant
right-of-way.

vestigated an accident on
Elberta Road one-half mile
from Centerville August 5.
Mark Howard Seward, 119
Driftwood Terrance, Warner
Robins, stated he was at
tempting to pass an unknown
vehicle in a 1969 Plymouth
and applied brakes, skidding
approximately 121 feet. He
struck a 1970 Volkswagen
driven by James Howell
Tabor P.O. Box 518,
Clarksville, Ga. on the right
front. No charges were
made.
Right shoulder injuries
and knocked-down fence and
mailbox post were the result
of a one-car accident August
3 one-half mile east of
Centerville on Elberta Road.
Thomas Jefferson McGill,
402 Willow Avenue, Warner
Robins, was operating a 1963
Volkswagen owned by
advised that moving her to
another hospital could cause
paralysis.
Mrs. Moss’s husband is
disabled, and the family,
including two young sons, is
living on social security
payments. There is no
hospital insurance, and the
family is desperately in need
of assistance. The family can
receive assistance on the
hospital bill from the county
Kenneth W. Logan, 105
Chestnut Hoad, Warner
Robins. Records show he
was traveling west on
Elberta Road, travel 360 feet
out of control and over
turned. The driver stated
there was another vehicle on
his side of the road and he
lost control. No charges were
made. Tpr. W. 1. Blount, Sr.
investigated.

An accident occurred 1.7
miles south of Perry on U.S.
341 August 1 involving a 1962
Chevrolet driven by Linda
Jean Stephens, Route 2 Box
279, Perry, and a 1968
Pontiac driven by Johnny
Allen Yawn, Route 1,
Hawkinsville. Records show
that both vehicles were
traveling south on 341 with
the Stephens vehicle slowing
to make a turn. Yawn closed
on the Stephens vehicle, then
started to pass, saw another
vehicle coming, applied
brakes which turned the
vehicle sideways, striking
the Chevrolet in the rear. No
charges were made. Tpr. G.

On U.S. 341 at Penn-Dixie
Road, J. L. in
vestigated an accident
August 1. Howard Coat
Taylor, Route 2, Hawkin
sville, was traveling north on
341 in a 1951 Chevrolet
pickup truck and attempted
to make a left turn into the
Medusa cement quarry.
Felton Harris Blackstock,
Lee Grant Motel, Fitzgerald,
Ga., operator of a Ryder
Truck Rental 1969 Ford
tractor and trailer, at
tempted to pass, skidded
approximately 65 feet,
struck the pickup truck on
the left side, then traveled
and has been assured of this
help, but a huge doctor bill
must be paid and the county
can not help with this.
An appeal is being issued
by the family and by friends
for assistance. Any
donations will be greatly
appreciated, Moss said.
They may be mailed to the
address above or to Mrs.
Moss in care of Room 228,
Houston County Hospital,
Warner Robins.

made. Taylor was treated at
Taylor Memorial Hospital in
Hawkinsville for a cut on the
left arm.
