Mathews
Services for Jack Thomas
Mathews, 49, of 2265 Ollie
Drive, who died Saturday
after a short illness, were held
June 17 at II A.M. ir. the
chapel of Hart’s Mortuary.
Burial was in Macon
Memorial Park
Mr Mathews, a native of
Peach County, lived in Macon
33 years. He was a lab
superintendent for Georgia
Kaolin He was a veteran of
World War 11, a member of
Cross Keys Baptist Church,
and a member of 26 Bass
Masters Club.
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs Sue W. Mathews of
Macon; a daughter, Mrs. John
Flanders of Macon; a son,
Guy T Mathews of Macon; six
sisters, Mrs. L.M, Hartley,
Mrs. Macy Skinner, both of
Perry, Mrs. Lucy Ellington of
Macon, Mrs. A.G. Bowman of
Jeffersonville, Mrs Robert
Bowdoin, Mrs. G.P Norris,
both of Forsyth

Mrs. Mable Jones of 814
Briarcliff Road, N.E., died
June 10, 1974, at her home in

Jeffrey L Taylor, son of Mr

St,, made the Dean’s List
Spring quarter at Georgia
College in Milledgeville. His
quarterly average was 3.33
and his yearly average is 3.44.
Dave H. Lawson, son of Mr
and Mrs. Powers C. Lawson of
Perry, received his M.D.
degree from Emory
University. Almost 1,300
degrees were formally
awarded at commencement
exercises on the Emory
Quadrangle June 10.

Joseph's Hospital in Savannah,
Ga.

were held June 12 at 2 P.M. at
Westview Abby in Atlanta
with H.M Patterson, Spring
Hill, in charge of
arrangements.
She is survived by a
daughter, Mrs William Lath
bury of Atlanta; a son, Ashton
B Jones of Columbus, for
merly of Perry; seven
grandchildren and two great
grandchildren
Newhard
Private services for Dr.
Margaret Eleanor Newhard,
57, of 84 Dartmouth Ave.,
Avondale Estates, were held
at 11 A M Wednesday, June
19, at Turner’s Chapel, burial
in Resthaven Memorial
Gardens.
Dr. Newhard, a former
teacher at Wesleyan College
in Macon, Furman University
in Greenville, S.C., and the
University of North Carolina
at Chapel Hill, died Sunday,
June 16
Dr. Newhard attended
Perry schools and is a
graduate of Perry High
School. The Newhard family
lived here while her father,
E.P, Newhard, was
superintendent of Penn-Dixie
Corp.
Dr Newhard was a member
of the Georgia and American
library associations and the
South Atlantic Modern
Language Association.
Survivors include her
mother, Mrs. E.P. Newhard, a
sister, Mrs. Jack A. Lee, both
of Avondale Estates; three
nephews, Ned, John, and Gene
Lee and two nieces, Paula and
Dottie Lee.
Martin
Services for Mrs. Auline S.
Martin, 67, who died Wed
nesday in a local hospital after
a long illness, were held at 2
pm Friday June 14 in the
Christ Sanctified Holy Church
in Perry. Rev. Floyd Hagan
and Rev. Eba Lewis of
licialed. Burial was in the
church cemetery.
Mrs. Martin, a native of
Dawson, had lived in Jemison,
Ala. for several years. She
was a member of the Christ
Sanctified Holy Church in
Perry.
Survivors include her
husband, B. J. Martin of
Jemison; a daughter, Mrs.
Lois Heiberg of Charleston,
S.C.; a son, Paul A. Martin of
Atlanta; and four grand
children.
Watson Hunt Funeral Home
of Perry had charge of
arrangements,
Fudge
Funeral arrangements have
been made for Mrs, Mary Lou
Fudge of Ball St., who died
Monday, June 17, at the
Church Home for the Aged
where she had been for 5
years. The services were held
at the Perry Presbyterian
Church on Wednesday, June
19, at 11:00 A M Interment
was in Evergreen Cemetery,
. and Rev George Gainey of
ficiated.
Mrs. Fudge, a native of
Houston County, had lived in
I Perry all of her life. She was a
housewife and a member of
the Perry Presbyterian
Church She was the widow of
the late James Robert Fudge,
Sr.

VP At C Os C Convention
The Sixty-second annual
Children of the Confederacy
convention of the Georgia
Division was held June 7-9 at
the Chalet Inn in Tifton, Ga.
Miss Clare Smyth of the
General Courtney Hodges
Chapter, Children of the
Confederacy, was elected
second vice president of tne
Georgia Division. Clare has
served as treasurer and at
present as president of the
local chapter. On Division
level she has served as
Chaplain (1972-73) and as
third vice president (1973-74).
