HOUSTON HOME JOURNAL TMURS., JULY I, }fH.
County Issued $168,000 In May
Food Stamp Eligibility
Standards Hiked Here
The food stamp maximum income eligibility stan
* dards increased for 1- and 2-person households July 1,
the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USOA) announced
today. The maximum allowable income standard tor a
1-person household In the 48 states and the District of
Columbia was Increased from $215 to $245 per month,
and from $307 to $322 tor 2-person households. Prior to
the Increase, In May, food stamps worth $168,218 were
Issued In Perry and Houston County.
Because the USDA poverty guidelines increased tor 1-
and 2-person households, eligibility levels tor these
households also Increased.
Food stamp regulations require the income eligibility
level to be set at the higher ot either (a) the Secretary's
Income poverty guidelines, or (b) the level at which the
total coupon allotment equals 30 percent ot income. In
the case of 1- and 2-person households, the Secretary's
poverty guidelines are the higher figures. The income
eligibility levels tor all other households reflect the
higher allotment-based calculations, and remain the
same.
Coupon allotments for all household sizes remain the
same, reflecting the cost ot the thrifty food plan In
February 1976, which was unchanged from August 1975.
The Food Stamp Act directs that coupon allotments be
adjusted twice a year to reflect changes In food prices

There are a couple of
movies that are showing in
our area that are causing a
lot of talk. They are "All
The President's Men" and
"The Omen". It seems that
the people who see them
are very strong in their
feelings about them. I have
seen both and as I have
stated In this column
before, I liked everything
about "All The President's
Men" except the ending.
That Is a lot more than I
liked about "The Omen".
"All The President's
Men" stars Dustin Hoff
man and Robert Redford
and is the Woodward-
Bernstein story of the days
of Watergate. You cannot
help but be fascinated by
the intricate building of the
story and the thoroughness
with which the reporters
pursued each lead. The
Journalism schools are
probably packed now with
new applicants who see
themselves as the
Woodward- Bernstein of
the future.
If you have doubts that
you will not like "All The

President's Men" because
you know all you could
possibly want to know
about Watergate, go see it
anyway. The movie is so
Involved with the Jour
nalistic side of the Nixon
debacle that your
knowledge of the political
aspects won't Interfere
with the story. Too the
movie stops before you
reach the John Dean
portion of the story.
If you want to see the
movie that is probably
going to be cited as the best
of the year, then make "All
The President's Men" one
of your must-see movies. It
is a big hit and Robert
Redford and Dustin
Hottman are excellent.
"The Omen" is making a
lot of money by luring in
the same crowd that went
ape over "The Exorcist". I
went expecting the same
spine tingling excitement
that "The Exorcist"
provided and was I
disappointed. The chills
just aren't there, at least
not for me. The only merit
