“Sourdough Sally”
One of the fourth grade rooms at Westfield
School recently presented a play entitled,
Sourdough Sally. The play was a historical one
with the purpose of introducing the audience to
Alaska, our 49th state.
Included in the cast were: Narrator - Staci
Bembry; Sally - Wendy Walker; Mrs. Crane -

A good report was
received from little Neal
Monroe, a patient at
Egleton Hospital, last
Monday.
Recovering nicely from
major surgery, the infant
son of Shelby and John
Monroe was expected to
be dismissed from the
hospital the early part of
this week.
Mrs. Phil Davis, a
member of Bethlehem
Baptist Church, was
admitted to The Houston
County Hospital in
Warner Robins last
Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Milton
Murphy of Bonaire and
his sister, Sarah Var
nadore of Centerville
motored to Tampa Fla.
recently for a visit with
Milton and Sarah's
brother, Wilton Murphy.
Wilton, a patient at St.
Josephs Hospital, is
recovering from a heart
attack.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Wilbanks proudly an
nounce the arrival of a
new granddaughter.
Their son Mike and his
wife Dianna of Com
merce are the parents of
Kristi Lynn Wilbanks,
born February 28th,
weighing 6 lbs, 9Vj oz.

SEVENTEEN BVRDINE, Chief of The
Bonaire-Kathleen Volunteer Fire Department
since 1972 holds his certificate of appreciation for
Outstanding Community Services. Presentation
of the certificate and one to the BKVFD from the
Georgia Jaycees was made by Allan Vollmer,
president of The Bonaire-Kathleen Jaycees,
February 27, 1978. Other awards displayed in
clude trophies and a plaque from 1976 and 1977
annual Houston County Fire Chief’s Association
Field Day.

his family last Sunday.

Leslie Douglas, a
senior of Scarritt College
in Nashville, Tennessee
spent last Friday night
with The Cole's at 500
Fourth Street in Bonaire.
Leslie is engaged to
their son Donald, who is a
senior at Georgia
Southern College In
Statesboro.
The wedding date has
been set for August 19th
in her hometown of
Douglas, Georgia.
Leslie, a native of
Memphis, Tennessee, is
the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. James Douglas.
She and Donald plan to
make their home in St.
Simons where she has
accepted a position with
The St. Simons United
Methodist Church in the
area of education.
Nancy Hazen, a student
at North Carolina State
University Is home for
Spring Break.
The daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Don Hazen,
Nancy is a major in Pulp
and Paper Technology
and Chemical
Engineering.
Nancy's traveling
companion to and from
the University is Janice
Davis, a college mate
whose home is In Warner
Robins.

March 6, 1978.
Mrs. David Crumbley
and sons Reed and Brett
visited her mother Mrs.
Julia Reed In Oakwood
last week.
While in Oakwood, The
Crumbley's visited Rev.
and Mrs. Huey Brock in
near-by Gainesville. Rev.
Brock, a former pastor of
Bonaire First Baptist
Church, now pastors at
Pinecrest Baptist
Church.

appeared at The Church
of God in Roberta.
The group is scheduled
to appear at Oak Hill
Baptist Church in
Monroe, Georgia,
Saturday, March 11th.
The Young Inspirations
and Happy Hearts look
forward to singing at the
Houston County
Correctional Institution
on .March 17th. The two
groups have made the
H.C.C.I. a regular part of
their ministries.
On March 18th, The
Happy Hearts have an
engagement at The
Heritage Inn Nursing

Friday, February 27th
will be a long remem
bered day in the history
of The Bonaire-Kathleen
Volunteer Fire Depart
ment.
Not only was It a busy
day for the team of men
and the one lady
firefighter who are so
dedicated to providing
protection to residents
inside and outside
"Bonaire City Limits",
but was a date on which
the Department and its
chief were recognized by
The Bonaire-Kathleen
Jaycees.
Several hours after
fighting a house fire at
noon, the firemen were on
their way again.
Returning from the
brush fire on Booth Road,
those who answered the
call and other members
of the Bonaire - Kathleen
Volunteer Fire Depart
ment were treated to a
fish fry given at the local
Fire Station by the
Bonaire Kathleen
Jaycees.
The well-fed and
relaxed crew was soon
responding to their third
fire of the evening.
Joining other County
Departments in battling
flames engulfing two
warehouses in Elberta,
the Bonaire - Kathleen
Volunteers were in
strumental in saving one
of the buildings. The
evening was only one of
many which earned the
Certificate of Merit from
the Georgia Jaycees.

AARP Directors
To Meet Mar, 10
The Board of Directors of the Perry Georgia
Chapter of AARP will meet in the Bank of Perry,
Eastgate Branch conference room, Eastgate
Shopping Center, Friday, March 10, at 2:30 p.m.
The March 14th meeting of the Perry Georgia
Chapter will consist of a Pot Luck supper, a brief
business meeting, and a briefing by Mr. William
Hafley, WPGA Public Relations Officer. Supper
will begin promptly at 1:00 p.m.
