Lunker Season Is
Approaching
Lunker bass are
trophies that many
fishermen just dream
about. Admittedly, a tew
real trophy bigmouths
are landed by the casual
angler who just goes
fishing to catch a mess of
fish and doesn't really
work at finding and
landing big fish. The
angler who consistently
catches big bass, doesn't
do It accidently, nor is he
blessed with more than
his share of luck.
That guy you know who
has his entire den wall
plastered with big old
mossbacks has developed
a technique that produces
big fish and he works at
hard! If there is an easy
way to get trophy bass on
a regular basis, I don't
know what it is.
The first requirement
tor getting a big bass is to
do your fishing where
some fish of trophy
dimensions are present.
Several large lakes in our
state have established
well deserved reputations
as producers of large
bass. A list of lakes which
outstanding harness
horses and drivers in the
country. Helicopter rides
will be avaiiable during
the day Sunday.
The Harness Festival is
sponsored by PUSH,
(Pulaski United Serving
Hands) a federation of
local civic and fraternal
organizations and
proceeds from the
festival go back to the
individual clubs to
support their various
civic and charitable
projects.
So - plan now to join the
crowds and enjoy a
weekend of interesting
activities in the Harness
Horse Training Capital of
the South!
regularly produce big
bass would have to in
clude Seminole, Walter
F. George and Lake
Jackson.
One of my favorite
types of water for lunker
bass fishing is old farm
ponds. These small
bodies of water are not
known for producing a lot
of big bass, but there is
usually one or two trophy
bass over eight pounds
just waiting for some
enterprising angler to
make him an offer he
can't refuse.
Lunker bass are
usually female and all
female bass are larger
just prior to spawning
than at any other time of
♦he year. Now, before
bass go on the bed is the
best time of the year to
catch whopper bass.
Bass will usually lay up
in deep water that is near
the shallows where
spawning will take place.
This type of holding
pattern is typical in large
reservoirs as well as
small farm ponds. Bass
that are holding in these
deeper waters are very
susceptible to crank
baits.
Large shinners fished
in these depths near
spawning shallows will
frequently yield a bass of
bragging dimensions.
After bass have moved
to shallow water for
spawning they show a
decided weakness for
large spring lizards. I
don't know if this is
because the bass think
the spring lizard will eat
their eggs or they just
like the flavor of fresh
lizard meat. Whatever
the reason, big spawning
bass like lizards.
There are three con
tributing factors to
catching big bass, where,
how and when. The where
and how have been
covered in the preceeding
paragraphs. The when is -

Parents Urged To Attend
“Immunization Sunday”
To Be Held Here March 12
Sunday, March 12 is
immunization Sunday in
Houston County. The Jr.
Women's Club of Warner
Robins and the Houston
County Health Depart
ment in Warner Robins
and in Perry are joining
with many of the chur
ches in the county to
remind parents that their
children need the
protection of im
munizations.
Why should a child be
immunized against
diptheria, whooping
cough, polio, mumps,
measles, tetanus and
german measles?
There are many
reasons. Because you
care about your child.
These childhood diseases
can cause many physical
defects such as blindness
and deafness. These
same diseases can cause
mental retardation and
even death.
Many parents felt that
with the discovery of
vaccines that the
diseases were done away
with. Not so. There is a
growing fear of an
epidemic of major
proportions in Georgia
from measles or polio.
Many thousands either
have not received the
vaccine or have not
completed the required
dosage for complete
protection.
Many parents wait
until the child enters
school, at which time the

school requires an im
munization certificate
anyway before giving the
child the protection that
the vaccine affords. To do
this causes the child to be
open to any of the
diseases and the sickness
they cause from birth
until the child is 6 years of
age. These five years are
very important to the
childs health and the
child should be im
munized, starting at 2
month of age.
Many parents do not
know where they should
take their children for
their immunizations. The
parent should call the
family doctor for the
information or the parent
should take the child to
the local health depart
ment. All immunizations
given at the health
department are free of
any cost to the family.
If a child has not
started these im
munizations or has not
completed the im
munizations, the family
physician or the local
health department should
be contacted as to what
immunizations are
needed or what boosters
should be given.
