Perry Cadet Gets High Honor
Houston County School Supt. David A. Perdue presents Perry High
cadet James Doster with a special “Silver Valor Award” during the
school’s annual “dining-in” ceremonies held at Robins Air Force Base
last Tuesday night, (see story for details).

reviewed complaints
from two citizens during
a regular meeting in
Warner Robins on March
14.
In a recent letter to
commissioners, Edward
Graham Jr. of 212
Wellston Drive in Warner
Robins said that tracked
vehicles dug up Wellston
Drive when the Robins
West sewer line was
being installed.

Graham requested that
the road, which is off of
Nelson Drive, be
resurfaced. Graham also
complained of sepfic
tanks leaking in the area
and asked commissioners
to investigate the matter.
Commissioners asked
County Clerk Lamar
Brown to answer the
letter and instruct County
Health Officer Jim
Hardin to investigate the
matter.
Larry Warnock of
Juniper Street in the
Laurel Hills subdivision
appeared before com
missioners near the end
of their session and ap
pealed to the com
missioner to repair and
resurface roads in the
Laurel Hills area.
Commissioner Charles
Carter told Warnock the
streets in Laurel Hills
were on the county's
priority list for resur
facing.

Valor Award Presented
PHS Cadets Receive Honors
At AF Dining-In Ceremonies
A Junior Reserve
Officer Training Corps
cadet as Perry High
School was presented
with the Air Force ROTC
Valer Award Medal, and
two of Houston County's
top educators received
outstanding service
plaques from the Air
Force during formal
ceremonies at Robins Air
Force Base on March 14.
LICoI. Lee Polnaszek,
aerospace instructor at
Perry High, said the
valor award was pinned
on Cadet Staff Sgt. James
A. Doster and the out
standing service plaques
were awarded to School
Supt. David Perdue and
Perry High Principal
Malcolm Marchman at
the seventh annual
Dining-In of the high
school squadron at the
base officers club.
Doster's citation stated
that on Feb. 18, 1978, the
cadet distinguished
himself by performing an
act of valor at the
Hayneville, Ga. Grocery
Store. According to the
citation, Doster was
assisting a customer at
the fuel pump in at
tempting to start her
flooded engine when the
engine burst into flames
threatening to engulf the
entire station and a
nearby store.
The citation further
states that Cadet Doster
ran into the store, picked
up a fire extinguisher
located there and put out
the fire promptly.
"This positive and
correct action under
stress reflects the highest
standards of citizenship
in performance to
others," the citation
states. "It also reflects
great credit upon him
self, the Air Force ROTC
and the United States Air
Force."
Supt. Perdue was
lauded for meritorious
service to the AFJROTC
units in Houston County
in that he was in
strumental in the
establishment and strong
acceptance of these three
units in the community.
Parents: Get Kids
Tested For School
Parents of children who
will enter Houston County
Schools for the first time
in September 1978 need to
start now, to prepare
them for enrollment.
Georgia law requires all
children entering first
grade to have vision,
hearing, and dental
screenings, also to be
adequately immunized
against: Diptheria,
Whooping Cough,
Tetanus, Polio, Measles
(red 7 day), and Rubella
(3 day measles). A
certificate of Im
munization and Vision,
Hearing, & Dental must
be presented to the school
before the child can be

school quarter were

Patterson St., has been
promoted to captain and
will serve as cadet
squadron commander.

Donald Grace, Gena
Snelgrove, Janet Wood,
Terry Askew, Paula
Bickley and Laurene
Clark.
Leadership ribbon
awards were presented to
Cindy Amirault, Chuck
Crowley, Bart Burnette,
Billy Joye, Maria
Prendes Barata, Scott
Shaffer and Lynn Smith.
Superior performance
award ribbons were
presented to Johnny
Cross, David George,
Marcus Newberry, Kim
Crowhorn, Donald Grace,
Gena Snelgrove and
Minnie Adams.

Newberry, was named as
the Outstanding Flight.

Department. Hours will
be from 1 ;00 to 4:00 p.m.

summer.

during ceremonies held at the Robins officer’s club last Tuesday night.
