Fishing Boat
In these days of super
bass boats costing
thousands of dollars,
many anglers are
overlooking a very ef
ficient and inexpensive
fishing vehicle. With this
device you can fish lakes
and streams where no big
bass boat has ever been
or ever will be. What is
it?
An inner tube with a
built in canvas seat Is one
of the most versatile
methods of angler
transportation ever
devised. With it you can
wade and float down
streams that are too
small for a boas, but too
deep to wade in certain
places. You can pack it in
to those out of she way
lakes and many beaver
ponds where it would be
impossible to trailer a big
boat. Even if you got the
big boat to the lake, it
would probably be im
possible to launch it.
The canvas seats which
fit inside the tube are

V.A. News
And Notes
The Georgia State
Department ot Veterans
Service is sponsoring
another veterans "Super-
Market” this year. What
is a Supermarket? It's a
place where veterans,
and or their families can
go to find out if any
benefits are available to
them. It's a one-stop
service and information
session, on a one-day
basis, where veterans
made by several different
companies and range in
price from about twenty
bucks to nearly seventy.
Some of the more ex
pensive models have
little built in com
partments for carrying
tackle.
A pair of suspenders
attached to the canvas
seat conveniently picks
up the tube when the
water gets shallow
enough to wade in. The
suspenders also convert
into a handy strap for
carrying the float into a
lake that cannot be
reached by car.
When I am using the
float in a cold trout
stream or in the early
part of the season I wear
chest high waders for
warmth.
My tackle is carried in
a fishing vest like the
type worn by trout
fishermen. These vests
have numerous pockets
for carrying lures, plastic
worms, flys, hooks and
all the other gadgets that
are so necessary for the
modern angler.
When you are in deep
water the float Is
propelled by kicking your
feet. You can even get a
set of special paddles that
strap to your legs just
above the ankles to in
crease your horse power.
I have even towed
minnow buckets on a
length of cord attached to
my float when fishing
back country lakes in
Florida.
A fishing stringer at
tached to the float is
handy for keeping up wish
your cafch. I once landed
a right decent bass in a
small pond near Valdosta
and didn't have a stringer
with me. I wanted to have
the bass mounted so I
began to work my way to
shore with him. I finally
made it, but it was a real
task.
For a very small in
vestment you can
greatly increase your
fishing range and fish
waters that are rarely
fished by other people. A
rubber inner tube with a
canvas seat is not only
one of the most versatile
things afloat, it is also one
of the cheapest.

municipal, state and
federal agencies con
cerning benefits and
services that may be
available.
This 1978 "Super-
Market” will be held in
the Recreation Building
in Warner Robins, next to
City Hall. The Market
will open at 10:00 a.m. on
March 23rd and close at
5:00 p.m.
Everyone is en
couraged to check with
the representatives at the
"Supermarket”. Rules
and laws change and so
does your eligibility.
There are many veterans
and dependents who may
be eligible for various
benefits but who, for
some reason, have never
applied for them. In this
"Super-Market” we are
placing every agency
that has any connection
with the veterans'
benefits within easy
reach of those veterans or
dependents.
Tell your friends about
this service. Let's have a
good turnout! Who
knows - you may be
entitled to a benefit you
didn't know about! You
may find it very wor
thwhile to find out!
Remember - March
23rd from 10:00 a.m. to
5:00 p.m., at the
Recreational Center,
Warner Robins.
Hike In Clothing
Allowance For Disabled
Veterans - Clothing
allowance checks to
certain disabled veterans
will be larger this year.
Recent legislation
boosted the amount of be
paid in 1978 to $203. The
previous figure was $l9O.
Georgia Veterans
Service Director Pete
Wheeler said that the
annual allowance is paid
each August to veterans
whose service-connected
disabilities require the
use of special prosthetic
or orthopedic devices
such as artificial limbs,
braces, wheelchairs, etc.,
which subject their
clothing to extra harsh
wear. The clothing
allowance is in addition to
regular monthly com
pensation that a veteran
may be receiving.
"Veterans already
receiving the annual
clothing allowance need
not re-apply, "said
Wheeler, "but those who
have not applied, or
whose claims may have
been denied, may file new
applications if they feel
they are entitled to this
annual allowance."
A special form -
"Application for Annual
Clothing Allowance” - is
required when making
application for this
benefit. Your office of the
Georgia Department of
Veterans Service, located
in City Hall - Warner
Robins, Room 213, will be
glad to assist veterans in
filing claims for this
benefit as well as any
other benefit available to
veterans. Your may also
contact our represen
tative each Wednesday in
Perry at the City Hall
Courtroom from 10:00
a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
