service projects
promoted by Mrs. Faust,
troop leader.
Today, the 28 year old
mother who is a
Dispatcher for Pope
Maintenance Private
Construction Company on
Robins AFB, continues
her interest In the welfare
of the community and has
ventured into a most
worthwhile role.
In November 1977,
Nancy became the first
lady to enlist as a
Firefighter with The
Bonaire - Kathleen
Volunteer Fire Depart
ment.
Becoming involved
with the Fire Department
was no snap decision for
Nancy. The new recruit
explained:
"It took me a year to
get my husband to join",
she said. "When I
threatened to sign up five
years ago, he decided he
would join instead".
So, for five years Nancy
has given thought to
rendering service as a
Firefighter.
Her reasons are very
personal, "I have had
misfortune with fire
myself and would like to
help other victims".
Eight years ago on July
13th, Nancy's 3Va year old'
son, Billy Jo, a twin to her
daughter Bobbie Jo,
lost his life in a fire which
broke out in their mobile
home. "That was before
we had a Fire Depart
ment out here", she
added,
Nancy and Henry
Hudson have been
married nine years and
live at 104 Third Avenue
in Bonaire. Their two
daughters, Bobbie and
Sandy are both students
at Bonaire Elementary
School.
According to Nancy,
"the girls like the idea of
Mama being a
firefighter."
"Grandma" (Mrs.
Faust) makes her con
tribution by taking care
of Bobbie and Sandy
while their parents and
"Grandpa" Faust attend
meetings.
In order to be eligible
for her first Firefighters
certificate, Nancy must
complete 60 hours of
training. This includes
learning how to drive the
truck, operate the pump
correctly, proper way to
put on bunker gear,
correct method of using
air packs when entering a
burning building, how to
ventilate buildings to

Thought for the week:
Discouragement is an
inclination to give up all
attempts after the devout
life, in consequence of the
difficulties by which it is
beset, and our already
numerous failures in it.
We lose heart; partly in
real doubt of our own I
ability to perserve. It is a
sort of shadow of despair,
and will lead us into
numberless sins the first
half-hour we give way to
it.
Clarence Miller of Fort

Mrs. Arthur Tharpe last

structions on forceable
entry to locked buildings,
and much more.
"There are times it is
necessary to break into a
building in order to ex
tinguish the fire. Care is
taken to gain entrance
which would result in the
lowest cost of repair to
the property owner", she
said.
"The expense of a
broken window, a door, or
a lock is small in com
parison to the damage of
a fire".
Nancy finds her ven

‘Fair Income Taxes For
Everybody’ To Be Aired
On ‘What’s The Issue?’
"Fair Income Taxes
for Everybody" is the
issue that National
Chamber of Commerce
president Richard Lesher
will discuss on Wed
nesday, April 6th over
WPGA.
This "What's the
Issue" program features
representative Joe
Waggoner, of
Louisiana, who is on the
house ways and means
committee.
For nearly alt
Americans, this is the
most taxing time of the
year. The time when we
wrestle with our ten-forty
forms, and divvy up with
Uncle Sam. Keeping this
in mind, "What's The
Issue" has invited a
member of a tax-writing
unit in Congress to
discuss whether the tax
code is fair to everyone.
