Unemployment Rate In Houston
County Takes Another Nose Dive!

The unemployment rate for Houston
County declined by five-tenths of a per
centage point in February, from a revised 6.4
percent in January to a preliminary 5.9
percent.
The total number of persons employed in
February in Houston County was 28,889,
while 1,824 others were still looking for work.
At the same time last year, the unem
ployment rate in Houston County was 8.1,
with 22,993 persons working and 2,021 others
jobless.

Childrens' Research
Hospital are complete.
The event will begin at St.
Christopher Church yard
at 10:00 a.m. on Satur
day, April 22. The Bike A-
Thon will continue until
2:00 p.m.

federacy will observe
Memorial Day, April 26
at 1.1 a.m. at Westfield
School. This day is a legal
holiday in the state of
Georgia, in memory of
our confederate soldiers.
The speaker will be Mr.
Charles R. Adams, at
torney, of Fort Valley.
Awards will be
presented to winners of
the Essay Contest
sponsored by the local
U.D.C. chapter.
A Militiary Cross of
Service for World War I
will be awarded to a
lineal descendant, of a
confederate veteran, and
has served his country
faithfully, and exem
plified courage and
devotion during time of
War. This reflects honor
upon himself as well as
upon his confederate
ancestor. These
decorations have been
established as a
testimonial to the
patriotic devotion of
Confederate Veterans
and their descendants.
The public is cordially
invited and urged to
attend this program.

In January, the unemployment rate in the
Macon area was 8.2 percent, with 109,880
persons working and 9,786 others still looking
for work.
Bibb County is one of seven counties served
by the Macon office.
Other counties in the area and their
unemployment rates for February include: |
Bibb, 9.3; Crawford, 7.2; Jones, 4.3; Monroe, |
4.0; Peach, 5.3; and Twiggs, 8.0.
